People calling the IX a GSR kinda makes me laugh, because it makes us Americans seem like "want-a-be" Europeans. Its not a GSR. Our trim levels are RS, BASE, and MR. Say what you want, we are not Europe. Their options there spank ours, so please dont compare like that, its silly. Secondly, The ABS system on the IX I own has saved my life, and thats a story in its self so I think the ABS is worth it alone right there. I also think the added insulation in the IX vs. the RS is note worthy if your driving on rough rodes like where I live. The IX for me is just a good blend of an RS and an MR, so in my opinion its the one to have. Also note, that if you want HID's stock, you have to get a IX with that "option" they do not come standard on the car like the VIII. Only the IX MR comes with HID's and Foglights. Add up the things you get on a IX Base, vs an RS and the IX is actually the better deal. Either way you win, maybe look for a good used VIII instead? Thats always an option. Good Luck.
In the Mitsu parts software the factory techs use, it says "GSR" in the title or car code for the base model. SO, the regular IX can very well be called a GSR.
Also, it makes the trim line-up make sence ie RS, GSR, MR
I just put a deposit down on an RS yesterday, probably going to pick it up this week sometime...Im not too worried about the radio, I dont listen to it anyway in the car, The power locks and windows are kinda bothering me, but hey we'll see I guess!
I have a thing about the GSR title again, someone stating because it was in the "tech software" that must mean our base IX's are GSR's? Wrong. The software is from Japan, and the people who wrote the software may have made the comparison, but the cars are not the same. Close, but no cigar. I know this is way off subject, but if any IX in Japan is close to our BASE IX here, its the GT. The EVO IX GT to me is the closest thing Japan sells overseas that is close to what our car is......well minus thier navigation system. haha....Its not a GSR, We can't make ours a GSR so its not a GSR. Shares parts with a GSR, doesn't make it a GSR. Anyway....haha...
i have an RS. I love it. It's an evo in it's rawest form. I did add a GSR spoiler. Not having power windows and lock can be a bit annoying but when I hit the gas it's all a distant memory.
IMHO you need power locks/windows w/ a 4-door...it's a big pain in the *** locking-unlocking them all one-at-a-time, rolling up other people's windows, etc. Also, on the track you shouldn't really need ABS but you DO want EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), otherwise you will probably want a manual (yuck) proportioning valve and/or need to match front-to-rear brake pad compounds really well. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra couple grand and get a IX "GSR" or whatever if you plan on using it as a car.
