Was it because I changed to 18 inches wheels. The lost in mpg is quite noticable. Amost 1/4 gas tank gone for 33 miles street driving!!!!...Not even driving it hard....Not in boost range. Stock ECU, no flash, only mod is Turbo back exhaust. !!!!!
Dude thats just the gas station robbing your *** with the higher prices. The more the gas cost the more i watch my gauge (like it helps any), but yeah i always feel like a i get bad gas milage when the price is high

You don't want to hit it too hard, it is aluminum! ( the tranny, not the bolt)

Yea, maybe I should clarify, Dont SLAM the thing, just hit it. Just enough impact to vibrate it in place.

I always use a 1/2" breaker bar along with a 1/2" drive socket. Take care not to over torque the plugs when reinstalling. The torque specs for both the tranny and transfer case plugs is 23ft/lbs.

this isnt pre-school .. Just use the breaker bar , and if you dont know what direction to turn the bolt , i would not be doing it myself

Here it is in 3 easy steps...

Step 1: Spray a little BreakFree CLP, Remington RemOil, 3-in-1 (or whatever penetrating oil you prefer) on the threads. For the love of God, don't use WD-40. That's a solvent...not a penetrating oil.

Step 2: Tap the head of the bolt lightly with a small metal hammer. This will help release the bolt.

Step 3: Use a box-end wrench (NOT a crescent wrench or socket wrench) to break the bolt. If you need that extra "oomph," then lightly tap the free end of the wrench with your palm or even a small mallet.

Step 4: If you've already stripped/deformed the head of the bolt past the point of no return, use a Vice Grips...but make sure you use the GRIPPING kind (NOT the clamping kind).

If none of those work, then just bite the bullet and take it to a shop. The last thing you want to do is strip out the aluminum threads on the t-case.

hmm... what do you recommend for breaking the drain plus then... that thing is a 24mm... i O.O i don't have a 24mm box end :\

which is my indirect way of asking... why no use sockets for breaking bolts?

B/c sockets have a tendency of slipping off and rounding off bolt heads, especially when used with a ratchet since the ratchet is not inline with the bolt head, it is raised. It really depends on how much torque needs to be applied. Impact guns are different since the force is axial with the bolt.

Box end wrenches are great b/c the force is applied in line with the bolt head. I have found it a little difficult to get a box end in to loosen the rear diff and TC drain plugs and used a 24mm 12 point socket with 1/2 drive ratchet. I didn't have any problems breaking them loose.

i guess i asked because most of the time sockets have more contacting faces to the bolt but i wouldn't disagree with what you said at all. if you use the exact size of a box end the fit is quite tight.

15/16" works if you have that.
