P0300 code thrown from clutch install...
Or at least that's what I've been told by someone
Through all of this keep a couple things in mind. This is NOT a bashing thread, this is NOT to turn into a war of guessing whom anyone is that is involved in this whatsoever. So no flaming ok. I recently had installed a new Exedy Twin Carbon Clutch, a Shepp Trans, and a brake package for me including swapping out all fluids in the brake lines, diffs, and trans. The shop I had it done at did an awesome job as always, as always...it was an awesome experience with them. Just for the record...no...they didn't tune my car incase you begin to speculate. This is simply a description of my problem so as I may ask help in solving the issue...
A few nights ago, on my way home from my girlfriends house, the SES light came on in 5th gear crusing the highway. I was 5 minutes away from where I store the car so I headed there right away. Went home and contacted the company that did my tune, described my problem, informed them I will have the code pulled asap, and asked if they still had my tune and what's the current turnaround time for a reflash IF I have Mitsu reflash my ecu for the possible P0300 code I believe it is since it supposedly messes with the tune that is there currently. Two days later I get the chance to have the code read...boom...P0300 was the only code thrown/stored in the ECU. So I go back home and log in here and re-contact the company that did my tune. Later that night I got their response, which was the file is no longer in existence (which I was told at the time of the tune it would be stored incase it was ever needed by me again). So I asked what all would be involved in my getting a flash for my mods (which I supplied to them), in which I got the response that it would be futile to reflash my ecu because my clutch is throwing my P0300 code. Now, I've been working on cars for years, I'm not a complete know-it-all, but at the same time I'm not ASE Certified...I know enough to get by and do 75% of my own stuff...but I highly doubt that my clutch is throwing my P0300 code...
Anyone that would like to chime it, I'd love to hear from you as I am at a loss not only as to why it happened, but at the response I got. I'd never think that a clutch would throw the code but it is coincidental that it happened after the install of the new clutch. I don't beat on my car, I've taken care of her from day one. I'm currently on mile 357 of a 650 break in of the clutch, brakes, and trans, so I'm not gunning it either. I checked with a few shops, and even contacted the shop that did my clutch install first BEFORE posting this...NO ONE has ever heard of this happening before and they all (with the exception of the shop I had do my clutch install because I DID NOT ASK them) think that the response I got from my tuner (name was not given out to any of the shops I called) was a blow off tactic as to not reflash my ecu for free/small fee since Mitsu would have to reflash it to cure the P0300 code and my original tune reinstated within the ECU.
So...Evom...I implore you...what do you think is going on?

Well we all know evos are famous for throwing that code. So its no biggy.I have an 03 evo with 23k miles on it. I did some mods and had it flashed. The code never popped up. Then i decided to throw in some 272 cams and get a reflash. The tuner warned me that it was possible to get the po300 code because of the cams. 1 week later the code popped up. po300. I have narrowed it down to when it pops up in my evo. It ONLY comes on when i run low on gas. Almost when the gas light turns on. If i have anything more than almost empty, it doesnt come on. I have heard of someone else getting the po300 after a clutch install though. How many times has it popped up and how far apart?
It's only come up one time, went away on the drive back to where I store the car after I had the code pulled. I've had cams in it for 2 years prior to this...never had a problem or ever had a code thrown.
Dont let it get to you. It can be frustrating if it keeps popping up. Its said by tuners that it affects the evos performance in no way. Some people are going to suggest buying the C-reader from ebay if your code pops up alot. The only real solution is a factory flash but then again you are not stock anymore. I would just forget about it. If it really pops up alot then start digging for a fix.
I don't want to wait for it to continue to pop up before I find a fix. I'd like to fix it now since it's come up, hence why I posted this asking for suggestions, I'm not one to wait around...I like to stay on the safe side of things
Well im 99.9% sure there is no a permanent fix for this. Its just a random missfire with no cure. Maybe if you are completly stock and had the evo reflashed by mitsu, then it might possibly go away forever. Trust me, there have been evo owners trying to cure the problem since 2003.

I can tell you your codes are probably coming from your clutch. I just had a Tilton twin plate installed a month or so ago. I can't drive more than 30 miles and I will throw a P0300 code. The Tilton clutch is very noisy when you are over 3000 rpms and you let up on the gas. It is also very noisy when you downshift from 5th to 4th gear.
I am clearing the code with a ODB scanner all the time. My car runs perfect other than the noise and the CEL. My only problem now is that I am having trouble passing emissions because of the CEL...even though I cleared it, the emissions computer somehow knows it happened.
I have to find a way to clear the code "permantely" so that I can pass emissions...
I just might have to install a single plate clutch in the car to solve my problem.

Yep, I know no codes on my car until I installed the Tilton clutch. Now every 30 miles or so the code will pop up (after clearing). Its so bad with throwing the code that I had to get an emissions waiver sticker in order to pass emissions inspection here in Pittsburgh.
If I didn't enjoy the performance difference of the clutch I would have replaced it...but the performance is spectacular.

It's a 5th gear input shaft issue, it IS covered by the 60k mile warrenty.
Take it to Mitsu and they will first flash your ECU
Then take it back, and they will replace all the parts for free.
Trust me, there are A LOT of us that have this problem
btw, I have an ACT XD 4 puck race clutch, and I didn't start having this problem until AFTER I installed this clutch, it only happens in 5th gear, deceling from 85+ MPH.
Let me know if you need anything else.
