New clutch/flywheel...strange starter noise

I'm getting a really whiney starter when i turn over the motor. Sounds a lot different than it used to with the stock flywheel. Is this normal for an aftermarket flywheel?

happened to me also with a fidanza once, firs ttime it happened in using them in 4 cars. I edned up goin to an exedy triple setup and never heard the noise again, but then again the starter plate could have been misaligned or something. But i really think it was the flywheel for some reason was making noise

I think I'm having the same problem with my exedy triple. Mine will actually grind sometimes.

yes sometimes it will turn over smoothly just with a different sound and sometimes it will almost struggle to turn over.

I have a friend who I'm doing some work for and his starter is slow to turn over at first and lets out a horrible friekin' screach before kicking the engine over fully. He's running an act or fidanza, can't remember what he told me. I'm curious if the "shop" that installed his clutch really did some damage...

well i don't know if this is your problem or not but with my ACT flywheel, it contacted the clutch service cover slightly and caused some noises on start up. you may want to take it off and try then. it sounded under the car like it came from the starter area, exactly where the inspection cover is.

Hmm... that would make some sense as I picked up a new service cover for this car as the shop who installed the clutch left it off and lost it when the job was done a while back. The starter was spinning free for bit and then catching prior to tonight. I removed the starter and found out that a local shop had stripped the upper bolt hole in the starter itself. It seems like this was allowing the starter to kick itself back away from the flywheel a bit. We couldn't find a large enough die and tap to retap and rethread the hole so I simply purchased a 10x1.25 nut and locking washer to secure the bolt from the other side instead of relying upon the slipping threads in the starter to hold it. Well after I reinstalled we were left with this new sound. Guess it's just another example of fine engineering from an aftermarket company
