Losing power

A friend of mine has an evo IX, and he only had a HKS RS on his car, we had a run together in my bone stock IX, everything was fine, till the 5th gear we were neck to neck, untill he installed a BOV, then after a while we had another run, i pulled away 5 cars length! obviously the car lost alot of power, i drove it and in first gear it didnt feel like its pulling at all!
Could it be from the BOV? or is it something eles?
A little help please!

if the only mod is the blowoff valve...I guess that would be a good guess

Then tighten it up?

So, he his only mods are an intake and BOV? I think you answered your own question.

Dammit, it's "lose," not "loose."

Intake and BOV are the two worst mods you can do for the Evo. 5 car lengths seems like a stretch, but you're somehow certain that everything was installed properly, so I guess we can't suggest doing a pressure test.

The thread says " Losing/loosing/lost power! " not "can anyone please be a smartass?"

Anyway you get my point, yeah 5 cars is too much, so you're suggesting we should remove the intake & BOV and hope its back to normal?

Swap back the stock intake and blow-off valve and do another pull.

maybe a leaky BOV, but you should bring it back to stock, the car would be faster in complete stock trim.

Well, it's much easier to re-install the stock intake and bov then do your own troubleshooting than it is to come online, make a post, and ask people to magically diagnose the problem. I mean all we know is you put on an intake and bov...we know nothing else. Do some obvious and easy troubleshooting and see what happens. If the car is still just as slow with the stock stuff, then you know there is a problem, and it's likely something that was disconnected or messed up during one of the installs. Basic, cause-and-effect troubleshooting.

What was wrong with the stock BOV? It's not made of plastic like the viii's were. There is no reason to switch that out. Intake with out a tune? The money could have been spent elsewhere. TBE, flash, MBC you are set for 330awhp.

Stock air box is plenty fine untill you do a bigger turbo, like a 35r. Is the BOV VTA? Just an intake will hurt the performance dramatically, especially without doing a tune and any sort of exhaust. If i recall correctly, when someone was testing the car with the stock air box vs. an aftermarket one, they got only like 5-10 hp out of it. Keep in mind, the car also had alot of other goodies, none of which you currently have.

I was already going to work on the troubleshooting!
I wanted to post and be sure before taking any steps, all i asked was if it COULD be the BOV thats making the car lose power, didnt ask for a trip to the moon!
this forum is for people helping each other, so please dont talk about people magically diagnosing the problem, someone might have had the same problem, people post here every hour and with diffrent problems and get useful answers, so if you dont know what the problem could be then dont post something that isnt useful, others have useful answers, Thank you!

But we've told people a thousand times that a VTA BOV is bad for the car. The answer to that question was a foregone conclusion. Unfortunately, we don't even know what BOV this is - you never told us.

I did give you useful answers (several, in fact), so I have no idea what that rant was about.

Dude lay off him. Some people need a kick in the rear end to get them in the right direction. I know I did. So dont feel bad.
