EVO8: 310hp basically stock?
EVO8: 310hp basically stock?
Whats up guys...welcome to my first post. Well i'll make this short and sweet. i don't know if you guys heard about this last week, but i will tell you anyway. i know a guy that works as a salesman at a Mitsubishi dealership. We were talking about the EVO, he was telling me how much he loves the car, how it blows the doors off his porsche, how so many dealers are jacking up prices, and how he sells them at sticker price. I then asked him if he had heard about the STi, and he said he did, then he filled me in about something they can do to the EVO to make it 310 horsepower. He said there is something they can do to the turbo to increase the horsepower at no cost. He said the procedure takes 10 minutes, but it will void the warranty. He said that the dealer is not supposed to perform the procedure, but they do it anyway if the customer wants it done. Have you guys heard about this? i just wanted to hear your thoughts, and tell me if you think this guy is out of his mind. i meant to ask him exactly what they do, but i forgot about it.
Sorry if this is a repost...or if its in the wrong forum...etc.

Im with you guys on this...ive had my WRX for almost two years now, so I am pretty informed about topics like this. i wish i wouldve asked him exactly what they do...he said they do it at no cost, so that would rule out some sort of boost controller. He said there is some kind of restictor on the turbo. i basically started laughing when he told me this. oh well

Oh and to add you can do it yourself with a drywall screw. Just remove the hose find the nipple with the restrictor in it...take the screw and turn just enough so the threads bite into is and pull it out here's a pic of the nipple..if you look closely you will see the inner part is a seperate piece...thats what you want to remove.. (pic is from a 1st gen)
sounds just like an over anxious over excited ignorant salesman, looking to make a sale....
-seems like a lot of people think that they are instantly knowledgable about the aftermarket scene now that the evo is here. some people have a lot to learn- a lot of magazines to read, and a lot of hanging out to do at peformance shops.
-seems like a lot of new evo owners and enthusiasts dont really know to much about upgrading and aftermarket. seems like they are takin in by the hype generated by their salesman and it just builds from there. dont be mistaken, pretty much all the evo's that are being built up now are shop cars. period. shop cars have custom work and time and effort into them, and will always be ahead of the pack. so new people, dont forget when you keep seeing posts about incredible 1/4 times and HP here and there, right now they are mostly shop cars that are built strictly for those purposes with much trial and error - also endless labor that isnt even takin into account.
-seems like a lot of people think there is free hidden horsepower, like if you drive backwards for 3 miles and pull the handbrake 4 times while signaling to the right, you will reset the computer and voila - 40 more hp.???????
i dunno, im just sayin. the evo isnt special interms of gaining power from relatively inexpensive and basic upgrades... most turbo cars have the same gains with the same upgrades - the evo is just a remarkable platform.
