Well when I bring my car in for an oil change in a couple weeks i'll have them check out the noise too. The only probelm is that the noise can't be duplicated and only does it randomly.

The only time I have ever gotten a thump when shifting to first was while the car was still rolling, which is something you shouldn't do. And possibly when going from reverse to first which can be tricky in a lot of Mitsus.

If you are sitting completely still, I think something else could be wrong if it does it every time.
