Should I take it to the dealer or is this normal?

I've tried searching but I really couldn't find anything and I didn't know the exact keywords to use. I noticed this problem for quite some time and my car has 8100 on the clock right now. Whenever I put my car into 1st gear from a complete stop I hear a loud thump. It not very loud but it's very noticable. I can't tell if it's coming from the transfer case or the rear diff. Is this common and should I take it to the dealer? It usually doesn't do it all the time but yesterday it did it like 4-5 times in a row when I came to a stop. Any ideas?

I think this is normal because my car has done this from the beginning, unless you are hearing grinding and if that is the case then it is your synchros.

No there is no grinding. It's very easy to get into gear. However I'm wondering what is the cause of this. When the car is stopped nothing should be moving when the clutch is depressed so what would make this noise?

DSMEVO: if you are thinking about going to the dealer, go to Biggers mitsu, in (elgin) IF your car is modded, they are nice people.

might be your wheel bearing.... / synchros

It is probably just the sound of the car going into gear. Does this happen when you car is cold or fully warmed up? Also yes, go to Biggers! I bought my car from them and they have done warranty work for me with no problems.

Just drive the car for little bit more, if the sound gets worse or change, go for check up...

Well I bought my car from Schaumburg Mitsubishi and I refuse to take my car in for service there. I currently bring my car to Max Madsen in Downers Grove and have built up a pretty good relationship with the service manager there. My car isn't modded except for a boost gauge but is Biggers pretty nice to people with mods? If so I might have to PM both of you for more details. Max Madsen said as long as it is not direct related to the part I replaced than it's fine. Anyways how can it be a wheel bearing when the car is stopped? If it were synchros then it would be hard to get into gear which is not a probelm. It's just as loud thump coming from either the center or back of the car as soon as i put it into 1st. BTW: I has done this for as long as I can remember and it seems to do it only when the car is warmed up.

True as stated above, if the sound gets louder it might be your trans or transfer case

I will make note to that if the sound does get louder. I assumed that if it was the trans or transfer car then it would do it while I was driving and not from a stop. It really has done this for about 6,000 out of the 8,000 miles that are on my car.

Hmmm..........I think some of the parts might be loose then. Our cars tend to make noises when backing out and other times because of the loose parts. Biggers is really good with warranty problems. If you have any questions call them at (847)742-5800 and talk to Keith.

IF you have just boost gauge, or turbo timer, you're safe I would never go to schaumburg dealer avoid them.

Iam about 90% sure its not your transfer case or trans.

I bought the car from Schaumburg because that's where my parents bought there Endeavor and they like there sales person. I got the same sales person but we had a hell of a time trying to work out a deal. The owner of Schaumburg Mitsu is a complete D%^K. He flat out told me that no matter how good of a deal he gives me he knows that he will make back all of his money when I visit his service deaprtment. He also spoke to mye father when my dad was in there doing maintance work and the owner asked if I wrecked the car or lost my license yet. My dad was with me weehn I bought the car becasue it was my first time buying a new car and he wanted to make sure I didn't get screwed. The owner kept thinking my dad was buying it for me and he kept telling my dad that there is no way I can buy my car or afford a car like this. Granted I was 22 at the time but when they checked my credit they near fell over. I also threw $7200 down. As soon as I bought it I had all my work done at Max Madsen. I will definitely check into Biggers now. TweakDSM you have a ton of mods on your car so far. Do you bring that car back to stock before you bring it to the dealer or are they ok with all the work you have?

I notice the same thing on mine, especially first thing in the morning going from reverse to first. It's not too loud, but it is a noticeable "thunk". It's done it since the first day I bought it and I've chalked it up to the fact that it's an AWD car with a complicated driveline and TC, and that such a thing is probably normal.
