SES harmful?
SES harmful?
I got the Service engine soon light from my test pipe (although the ebay seller said that the fix they added on to it would not bring it up, there goes to see ebay quality).. anyway, i've been driving around for a week or so, and the car is much rougher and hesitant...
went to Autozone, OBD II check, code P0420 : Catalytic malfunction. obviously.
The question is: is it harmful to the car to drive with the SES on, due to the fact that the car may alter the fuel air ratio after recieving the warning? im getting a 02 sensor soon, but till now, and for a week or so, would driving it hurt the car?
Thanks...

This is a code that ECU throws when the rear O2 sensor detects un-catalytized fuel coming from the cat. It should not affect the way the engine runs. Perrin makes a little chip that simulates a proper signal from the rear O2 sensor to keep this code from throwing. You can also use anti-foulers on the test pipe to keep the rear o2 sensor out of the exhaust stream. There many threads on this topic.
