My wife actually had _the_best_response_ I have ever heard to a car with a VTA BOV. Had some guy cruising in his GSX next to my Evo and every 4 seconds we could hear "pssshhht", "pssssht". So my wife turns to me and says "What's wrong with that car? It sounds like a Bus?!?!" ROFL

So my response to anyone installing a VTA for the "cool" sound from now on will be "Why would you want to make your car sound like a bus?"

"I can't say that I hate BOVs; I just don't understand them." FJF

During certain operations, such as shifting gears in a transmission attached to the engine, when the vehicle operator releases pressure on the accelerator pedal of the vehicle, the compressor becomes unloaded, and can experience undesirable forces on blades of the compressor that could lead to premature failure of the compressor. To address this potential problem, turbochargers often include an internal recirculation valve 24 that is actuated, when needed, to provide an internal recirculation path, through the recirculation valve 24, connecting the outlet 20 of the compressor 16 back to the inlet 18 of the compressor. The recirculation is done internally to reduce the generation of sounds, during recirculation, which might be objectionable to the vehicle operator.

Stop hating and just enjoy your Evo! Try not to let little things like "psshhhh" make you mad.

<sigh> Is this some kind of a joke? Would you like me to count exactly how many times I outlined my position, which did/does not include any dislike of VTA BOVs? I've had to repeat it solely due to comments like yours. I could give a flying f#ck what someone chooses to install in his own vehicle. As a member of another generation, I wondered about the rational behind it. That's it. It's that simple.

My Turbo XS RFL is recirculating and yes it is loud as hell, and yes I like it. Ok, how about this. Your asking why would anyone do something to a vehicle if it would be bad for the overall performance of said vehicle correct? Please sir put your spoiler back on, it is functional, maybe only at high speed, but taking it off greatly reduces the amount of donwforce generated by your car, not to mention that you are not be unique or individual by doing so either. As far as looking different, behaving, sounding different, I believe that aim for most is to disinguish against the stock version of whatever their vehicle may be. I know that may be an extreme example, but a example nonetheless. Why buy a BMW, Mercedes? Why buy a Ferrari over a Vette, when they are very comparable in performance yet so vastly different in price? Sir I don't know if any of this is the answer you are looking for BUT, I know I like the whoosh sound I hear. All day and every day, it is not that common of a sound at all, as factory boosted cars go only Supercharged ones usually have a distinct whine to them, i.e. my old 03 Cobra. In closing my BOV is very loud, I enjoy the sound while driving my car, and I took the proper steps to prevent any negative effect on the cars performance. I am no BOV expert but I would venture to guess there is a hefty price diff between VTA and recirculating BOV's, some may only be able to afford a VTA. I know there are guys out there with very high payments for their EVO.

It's an Evo RS - wingless from the factory with a lightweight trunk lid.

I still think some of you don't deserve a boosted car. U need to get a camaro, mustang, or vette and make it fast. You'll never hear a BOV if you don't boost it I swear.
