Updated thread? No, there's no reason to need an updated thread when there were 5 last week, 20 last month, and 300 in the past year. It's not like it the Typhoon has changed or that K&N gives a flying bleep - believe me, we've told them. You just chose not to search, plain and simple. Please don't do it again.

The HKS drop-in costs the least, because it has to be changed - it cannot be used for the life of the car like the other two.

i heard from numerous people the the K&N intake sucks, also the same goes for the hks filter. and as for a drop in filter i've been told by numerous owners local to me that they have tryed the drop in method and felt nothing what so ever. i say your best bet were to be a injen intake setup. its costly but i have had no problems with mine.

That's awful to want an intake just because you have a UICP that doesn't give you any power gains. Why do people do this to their Evos??

Donmeca, you "heard" from people that the Typhoon sucks? Haha, you mean it's been said 1000s of times by hundreds of people right here on EvoM. You also have "heard" from owners local to you that they felt nothing from a drop-in??? Man, that's like saying, "I heard that the Earth wasn't flat." Of course they didn't feel anything from a drop-in. You wont' feel anything from any intake unless you are susceptible to the placebo effect. A drop-in is like 3-5whp maybe - how can anyone feel that?

Again im sorry, new to the forum and Evolutions. Im a visual non verbal learner meaning anything that I can reply to, see, touch, or work on I understand it better than just reading it from older threads. Again sorry for taking up peoples time to help me out.

well exactly, thats what im saying. thats why i dont know why so many people swear on a drop-in filter. im not a motor guru such as your self but this is from what i've seen and heard from many local evos guys that i know. even after a flash or tune their was no noticeable gain from it.

Keep the stock air box with a drop-in until you reach about 450whp after that you can think about an intake. I know the aftermarket intake gives a bling factor, but that all it gives LOL. no hp.

Whatever man. I have a EVO 9 that I just put the Injen intake on and it does indeed make a difference. Not all intakes are the same. Maybe some will not give power gains on a basiclly stock EVO but others will. All I have is Al's basic flash, a Forge MBC set at 21psi, WORKS DP, Helix HFC, and Espiler catback. I just took my car out for a spin after installing the intake. I reset the ECU and hit the street. Just let me assure you that the Injen is no joke - it really works. I had a K&N drop in filter with the stock airbox before and my new Injen intake/UICP combo blows that 80 dollar drop in filter out the water. I was so pissed after I spent 80 bucks on a filter and it made absolutly no difference in performance or mileage. I have not had a chance to test the mileage of the Injen but performance has been enhanced across the board. My EVO is not pushing anyting close to 450whp and the Injen intake indeed made power. The Injen destroyed the stock box with K&N rip-off filter, sorry to burst your bubble. I'm still mad about wasting 80 bucks on that damn drop in filter.

It all in your mind. I have seen countless intakes of every brand made on the dyno. All give the worst dyno curves compare to a drop-in. Even when tuned you will not get smooth curves on the dyno. Just because the dyno curve might have had a spike of maybe 10hp does not indicate that you just gain 10hp from that intake, it just showed you how bad that intake was. The only intake that showed a somewhat smooth curve was the Apexi with a 5hp gain at the most across the entire bandwith. If you paid $80 for a k&n drop, you are right, you got ripped. . You can find a K&N drop for an evo for less than $50 on ebay

Papito is right. Thinking you got tons of power from an intake just by relying on the butt dyno is very foolish. Even with a tune, the intake makes little power - not enough to feel. If you did feel anything, it was some erratic lean spikes in your tune, since you weren't tuned for the intake (bad idea).
