HP Difference between K&N Drop in and Typhoon Intake

I have been doing some reading about the Typhoon K&N intake, and it seems to claim some pretty high gains. How do they compare to the K&N Drop in? I will probably be getting a tune in March.

Is there any reason I should go with the Typhoon instead of the Drop in like I plan to do?

Don

haha, just the K&N drop in unless you have upgrade yor turbo. first off intake is a waste of money with stock turbo, second the Typhoon is a junk, do a search on this, a lot of people have all kind of mess up ****

Apparently, the research you've done on that intake hasn't been done on this site. Spend a little time searching here, and you will see that the Typhoon is considered the worst intake for the Evo by most. Don't believe the gains you see claimed elsewhere, especially those by K&N.

Also, you can't have a tuning device (e.g. flash) in A-Stock, so if you're going to go ahead and bump yourself out of AS, then you might as well do the TBE (referring to your intake/exhaust) thread.

Also, against what vboy said, a good intake CAN and WILL make good power WITH A TUNE, but the Typhoon is not recommended.

That typhoon is junk I had it on my car for a day and wow, I didn't think you could lose power from a intake

Arc

Has anyone tried an ARC induction box on a IX? They look the trick, but r they any good?
If one plans to keep the stock turbo, what would be a good intake?

HKS racing suction?
ARC Box?
HKS green mushroom?
BLITZ?

Yes, there is a thread started by Pure Tuning where they started by adding an Arc Induction Box without tuning, then added a Ti exhaust. Their gains were pretty huge.

Arc

thanks...
Looking thru the threads, i realize that with the VIII an possibly the IXs, gains are minimal, and in some cases negative with a pod filter... is it cause of the airflow sensor and the stock ecu parameters? Had a HKS pod on my evo V and though gains were noticiable, the induction noise was awesome!

I have this intake, I like this intake so much that I'd probably sell it for a cheap price, let me know if you need one. I heardthis intake can gain anywhere from -10 to 10 hp.

Which one do your recommend Warrtalon for the most hp? I heard CAI yields more than RAM, but it seems like the HKS ram makes the most power...

I don't know what a RAM is, but I prefer not to spend my money on an intake due to $/hp reasons. I have a $65 drop-in filter that retains the nice characteristics of the stock airbox: lets in ONLY cool air from OUTSIDE the engine bay and provides a nice vaccuum seal that allows for a non-turbulent airflow across the MAF. Likewise with the stock MAF pipe (rubber hose from intake to turbo), not changing it allows the MAF to work flawlessly. Intakes look nice, sound nice, and can make good power properly tuned, but I focus my power-making efforts elsewhere.

I don't know of any HKS RAM, but the popular HKS RS doesn't make anymore power than the Injen or Buschur intakes.
