Secondly, Side impact airbags are not required, nor will they be required in the future to meet the new federal side impact standards. They are one method that carmakers can use to meet the new side impact standards, but they will not be a requirement: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testin.../SABFAQs.htm#5
You were probably thinking of advance frontal airbags:

Advance frontal airbags require a weight sensor in the passenger seat. But they will not require a redsign of a vehicle like the new side impact standards will.
akluc: thanks for clearing that up man. I had never heard of that law either
Anyway I just talked to Mark on Yahoo and he told me you have to pay Cali tax if you plan on driving it home.... It's just as I said earlier. If you plan on having it shipped you pay your state's tax though.
Man people in Delaware have it good..... at least when it comes to buying a car.
So now I'm back to square one...
I am still leaning towards buying in Cali assuming prices don't go up too much... I want my girlfriend to see the car, and I want to be able to break it in while I'm there...
In the long run maybe 1000 doesn't seem like so much but the way I look at it, that's 1000 I won't have for mods, 1000 that I'm gonna have to make my parents sacrifice, etc...
Are a lot of you guys in the same situation as me now?

I've bought no less than 6 cars ranging from FL, VA, GA, PA, and CA. In fact my current Vette was purchased in CA. The ONLY time that I paid taxes at the dealership is when I didn't feel like screwing around at the DMV and asked the dealership to take care of it (send in the paperwork and taxes) even then they sent the information to my state of residence not the state that I bought the car from. If they didn't send the tax money to your home state then you would end up paying state taxes for the area you bought the car in AND state taxes where you reside.
When you call a dealership to discuss things like this avoid the salesman and talk with the finance guys, they are the ones that are up on this type of information.

Bought my car in Delaware and this is the route I took also because I didn't want the hassle with my local DMV (in CT). Worked out well since I paid everything out front and didn't get the tax shock someone else said they got when they came home to register it.
