RIP Apexsilver06mr from san leandro...
you don't sound like your mad.. given he drove the car behind your back, you just leave your keys around in public view? sounds fishy that your cousins would condone letting someone grab your brand new car without your knowing to go for a drive, if so who was in the front passenger seat when this happened? to answer your question, policies are different depending on insurance companies, prepare to shell out $$$ if he does not have full comprehensive coverage.
u sir are an idiot for letting ANYONE drive your car AND for not having insurance. no one has EVER driven my '03 & i barely let the wife drive the '05 (& it's hers!).
i suggest picking your friends more wisely & take a different car to the next party...

If I am not mistaking most of the insurance companies wouldn't get involve if there is a DUI issue, basicly they wouldn't cover their client if the client had the DUI..
I am sorry for your lost but I don't think your friend is a real friend. Who is the one seating inside of the car?
Not having insurance on a car is something I comdem the most, driving while intoxicated is even more unaceptable. Tell your friend he is a dutchbag

I doubt he even filed a police report. He'll probably end up taking this one up the poop shoot from the sounds of it.

Well, since he didn't mention anything about his "friend" going to jail, I'm going to have to agree with you on this one. Last I checked, it was illegal to drive drunk.
By the way, I have State Farm...don't even think about turning this claim in to them:
Reporting fraud
Why report insurance fraud?
Each year, billions of dollars are lost to insurance fraud. You lose money too, when fraud raises your insurance rates.
Help us fight insurance fraud by reporting:
Staged auto and slip/fall accidents
Faked or inflated auto, home and business losses
Intentionally set home, business and auto fires
Phony or inflated medical bills, auto, home or business repair bills
Misrepresenting the ability to work (claiming medical disability)
Questionable death or disability where Life Insurance is involved
To report suspected insurance fraud, call State Farm or the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB®) hotline:
1-800-TEL-NICB / 1-800-835-6422
New Jersey Personal Injury Protection (PIP) forms
