i still think this story is made up for the purpose of trolling for angry responses. the guy probably had the pics from some other situation and made up this story around them to see how many people he could **** off.

In true EvoM fashion those preaching to him have not read through the entire thread. He has insurance. However the claim is with his buddy's insurer.

To the original poster...why is your buddy smiling in that picture? He wrecked your car with your cousins inside of it while driving drunk. He's created a horrible mess that will last for months, even if handled perfectly by all parties involved. That shows a total lack of respect. With friend like that who needs enemies?

His "buddy" took the car without permission and wrecked it while drunk. Insurance does not cover illegal acts or willful negligence.

Wrong, they will cover it and sue his insurance. If you car is STOLEN, that is an illegal act and is covered. DWI gets paid for as well, even if it is your own fault.

That's all fine and dandy guys but you're debating a hypothetical. The car was NOT reported stolen and, based on what I can tell from this thread, his buddy did not receive a DUI or even a citation. Had either of those two things happened he would not have been smiling in that picture. He also wouldn't have been available for the photo either. As far as the buddy's insurer knows he simply crashed his buddy's car. I'd bet my left nad he didn't say "oh and I was fuggin hammered and didn't have permission to drive the car either". What happened and what the insurance company BELIEVES happened are two entirely different things. It's also reason # XXX to delete this thread entirely if you're the car's owner. Insurance fraud is a billion/yr industry and all of the big companies have teams of lawyers working around the clock to prevent it. This thread has already been gift-wrapped for them.

You're right and you're wrong. Whether his insurance will cover it is totally dependent on his policy, state laws, and company regulations. All of which vary from state to state. In Utah for example a DUI is an EXCLUSION to policy coverage meaning if you wreck a car while drunk you are NOT covered

Allstate already has a copy of this thread and the pictures, I hope his buddy submits the claim.

I should qualify that and state under my policy with Allstate. It may differ for the other insurers

That's great but there was no DUI issued. As far as the claim is concerned, no alcohol or theft was involved. It's a simple claim. The only variable is that the registered owner was not behind the wheel.

Do you honestly think an insurance company is gonna look at a claim like that and not see red flags? Especially considering the owner was bright enough to post on a worldwide message board that his drunk friend stole his car and wrecked it. Failure to disclose the complete details of an accident is insurance fraud which isn't just grounds for denial of coverage, it's grounds for a trip to Federal Prison. How many insurance companies have you dealt with?
