does removing the cat or gutting the cat and putting a pipe inside(same thing except appearance) make more horse power????........or sound louder?

Yes, it makes the exhaust tone deeper (sounds better IMO) and adds power. 10-15whp.

have any evo owner done this and had specific warranty void issues with doing this....or even like a cat back exhaust?

Dude like 70% of EVO owners run catless exhausts. Warranty depends on your dealer. Some dont care, some do.

I too was thinking about gutting the cat, but I'm holding off for the complete TBE w/ test pipe. In PA there are two types of the emission state inspections. Which type of inspection is determined by your county of residence. I'm lucky and only have to pass a visual exam of the exhaust. I'll probably use method of using the heat shield of the factory cat to disquise the test pipe. Is there any problem of the shield fitting around the larger diameter pipe of say a Buscher test pipe?
