My Evo not totalled but....

Hey I got T-boned Friday morning by an old lady who ran a red light on my way to work. The passenger side and rear doors are bent in... along with some of the fender and side skirts, I noticed that some of the frame was bent in (about an inch for 3 ft section of the side),... is it possible to actually get the unibody back into specs? I'm glad she missed the wheel cause it could've messed up the AWD. The incident happened near St. Francis Hospital between Woodruff Rd. and Warm Springs Rd. if anyone in the Columbus, GA area.... it happened very close to work (Century 21 All Star Realty) around 8:30AM. The old lady had a slight concussion but otherwise unhurt, I was not hurt either. My car was towed to Parkway Mitsubishi where their autobody shop is going to fix my car...There is some frame damage from where the car hit the side but I was told by the insurance guy Friday afternoon that it will not be considered totalled.... just curious if anyone had an accident that had frame damage but didn't get totalled and got it fixed to factory specs?

That sucks... Short answer is no. It will never drive the same if there is frame damage. Good luck.

i would push to have it totalled if it had frame damage...tell them that it will effect your resale value too much.

I agree with Scott, ensure they give you cash for the depreciation of the car, because with that much damage your car will lose a few thousand dollars minimum on a trade in.

Agreed, I think it's almost impossible to bend back a frame once it's been damaged.

Some parts of our frames are sectional. I doubt the side is though...I'd look into your policy papers and see what your insurance company's policy is on total loss.

All these quotes show the horrible advise that is given on these forums some times. Your car sounds easily repairable. It will be put on a frame rack and the unibody structure will be pulled back into spec (usually +/- 3mm). The only part where people have been close to right is the fact the it does damage the resale value of your car. But if it's done right no one would ever be able to tell. I wouldn't worry about your car too much, it sounds like its in good hands.

Good thing you're alright, we all know about the Evo's side impact crash safety ratings.

So, you're telling me that if your Evo had frame damage due to an accident you would rather have it fixed than to have the insurance company total it?

To start you cant tell an insurance company what to do! they do what they want based on the damage.... The best thing you can do is get it to a reputable shop, that is your choice and then they will pull it as good as they can and then replace what is necessary! Just make sure you go in their once in a while and see how things are going and check up on it! If the customer is constantly coming in to check on stuff then trust me they will do it right!

You have no idea what you are talking about! If the repair is done properly you should never be able to tell it was ever wrecked... even the driveability!

I would call the cop who wrote the report at the scene of the accident and ask him/her to tell your insurance company and write on the report it is totaled. Give the cop a sob story and tell him/her the car will never run the same again. GOOD LUCK!!!

The problem of course is finding a body shop that will do the work properly. Been there done that, and after wasting tons of time and money ended up trading the car in.

I would also take pictures if you haven't already. I was in an accident in my old beater car and somehow they seemed to lose my car and sent it to another state where it was nearly impossible to retrieve my belongings.
