Evo 8 vs SLK32 AMG (good link)

I'm the owner of the SLK32 AMG. I was wondering if some of you who are familiar with this car can give me some feedback as to what kind of launch the Evo had. Did he come out pretty hard or does it look like a **** launch? If you had to guess, what do you think his 60ft was? The reason why I ask is because I just put a set of drag radials on the Benz and the thing hooks up amazingly well after heating them up on the street. Is it possible I'm pulling a 1.8 60ft or so?

This Evo was lightly modded and the race was about an 1/8th mile. Towards the end, before the Evo hit the brakes, I had about a car to a car and a half on him.

Thanks for any input,

Marc

I think 1.8 60' on the street is pushing it - it can be difficult enough to get a 1.8 on the track with the aid of VHT. Didn't look like the evo got too bad of a launch, but it's difficult to tell when viewing footage taken from next to the car.

OK guys, it's working now and there shouldn't be any problems with it again.

Really? I thought most EVO 8s at the track were pulling low to mid 1.7 60ft times? I know the Pruven Performance one pulled a 1.728, but that car has a few bolt ons...

Do you think VHT does anything for an AWD car like the Evo?

Gee, the AMG weighs a bit less than the Evo and has 349 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. I wonder who's gonna win that race?

The SLK32 AMG weighs 3220 lbs and has a 5-spd automatic, but it does 0-60 in about 4.8 sec. If he didn't have drag radials, the Evo might've been even with him.

He's got a couple videos of you vs the WRX, but I don't think he had time to convert them yet. I'll let you know when I get them.

You can't just look at raw power to weight ratios. In the real world, it's much different. The race against the Evo was on a really ****TY road (glazed over from many years of drag racing I presume) and was only the 1/8th mile. Everybody knows how AWD cars dominate in the 1/8th mile vs RWD or FWD. Besides, doesn't an EVO8 run like low 13s bone stock? That's what my AMG runs.

The drag radials definitely helped my AMG, but the thing that kills me is stall speed. The most I can really brake rev my car to is about 2300rpms. This car just simply wasn't designed for drag racing.

Laters,

Marc

He would beat me in a short race like that if I were on the stock Continentals. Those tires are absolute trash on the street. If you try to floor it off IDLE with them, the car goes completely sideways. LOL.
