The stock cd unit is underpowered. Try an aftermarket unit with stock speakers first and if you don't like it then you can move into an amp. Sometimes you can find some cd units that puts out 60w per channel and that is plenty for stock speakers.

What is up dude...

The only main complaint that people has on the stock CD unit is that the cd unit has absolutely no powert at all. Even if you upgrade the speakers you are not pumping enough juice to optimize the aftermarket speakers.

I heard that at least the SSL package sounds system is somehow decent. Save yourself the money and just try the aftermarket unit for now.

My tip of the day is to please go to Circuit city or best buy and get two sets of Mitsubishi harness. One harness plugs into the existing stereo harness and the second harness fits whichever brand Stereo you choose to put.

These two set of harness will run you about $30-$35 and there is no cutting or splicing. You can't never go wrong with that, this way if you don't like the aftermarket stereo your car wouldn't have cut wires.

Basicly all are compatible as long as you purchased the double harness I mentioned earlier.
