flash without boost gauge?

Hypothetically, can a tuner flash my ecu to get the boost to taper less without me installing a boost gauge first?

For a mild tune on a otherwise bone stock IX, can I get away with not using a gauge?

I don't think a boost gauge will aaffect your warranty if thats what your worried about. If you want to play it super safe you can just get a sports gauge set from mitsi.

Yeah, if you're gonna leave the car totally stock, then maybe you don't need a boost gauge, but once you start talking about any mods that'll affect or alter the factory level of boost control and altering the built in safeguards such as boost taper or once you get a performance flash....then you definitely need a boost gauge, otherwise you're asking for trouble.

You need to be able to monitor boost on a turbocharged car anyway. As suggested, if you're afraid that the dealer will hassle you, then get the Mitsubishi factory gauge package from your dealer and have them install it.

Once you have the ability to monitor your boost level, then get a flash.

I ran with a flash with no boost gauge for about half a year with no issues. The flash only made the boost taper slower than it was stock, but I'd say go for it. When you start adding other mods though, it would be wise to get one as I did.

one of the first things you should do on a turbo car is to get a boost gauge, and no it will not effect your warranty with any dealer.

I agree you should have a boost gauge - but with a stock car and a properly set up reflash you have no more need for the gauge than with a stock car as the ecu controls the boost just as stock

You'll be fine without a gauge with a proper flash from one of the reputable vendors that has a presence here on evom. It's a good idea to have one, but not necessary.

A boost gauge is a great idea, even if you dont mod because anything could happen. I mean you dont want to be drive your car off WG pressure (only 12-14lbs) and not know it.

On a modified car, I would say that its maditory. What if the boost startes spiking or something, you need to be able to know.

if the ecu controlls boost and the flash is sound, the only time you would really need a boost gauge would be when you are trying to diagnose a problem. The only gauge I keep my eyes on anymore is the EGT for sustained high speed runs (over 120mph) as I am comfortable with the boost settings...
