... poor Evos.

I have my 2-step set at 6000 rpm, clutch restrictor pill in and still get a perfect tire-spinning, no-clutch-smelling launch on the stock clutch. I only lift my right foot when launching if I begin to sense any wheel-hop.

To the OP, I'd for for a twin-disk if you want to make good power later on.

Trying to launch it at around 5K, even letting off the throttle still netted me burning the clutch. It absolutely would not grab past like 2500.

34Turbo, I've heard of it, but have no idea what the 2-step launch is. I remember reading a few things mentioning it on EvoM, but never really searched for what it is and where/how to get it.
it sais you have an exedy twin disk in your sig....how the hell did you burn that out in 5 runs?

Hey there. I went through 3 clutches in my 03 EVO before the tranny was replaced. stock 0-8000, stock 8000-16000, ACT 2600 16000-32000, ACT 2600 32000-54000. After each one was replaced I'll admit I was harder than ever on them. The last 2 years I had the car I put 22000 miles on the last ACT after the tranny was replaced and when I traded in it still grabbed like it was brand new. Perhaps it was my driving but the ACTs held up better to my lead foot way more than stock. And why after they replaced the faulty tranny did my clutch life almost triple and more? Mitsu you crazy little car company Also I had a Fidanza flywheel installed. Whoever does your clutches is gonna wanna replace or resurface the flywheel each time. New Fidanza inserts are a ton cheaper than replacing the entire flywheel. I think the flywheel with insert was $475 and the inserts are like $25-50ish.

Wow, thread resurrection.

I actually ended up with the Exedy Twin Disk. I'm pretty sure it was installed incorrectly because it's been a pain in the *** since day one. It doesn't drive right and shifting sucks and the clutch pedal had to be adjusted to the point where it grabs at the very top or else is doesn't want to go into any gears.

The shop that installed it wont take any responsibility, plus they are pretty much going to be going out of business soon. So I'm pretty much boned on them fixing it. I've heard that possibly one of the plates is getting caught up. I'm thinking I'm just gonna pull it and sell it. I've only put about 1300 miles on the car.

3600 miles in September 06.

5K miles here in 2007 now. I need to drive more.

I had your same problem. 3,200 miles and my stock clutch was completely gone!

My new baby!

I bought the Exedy Twin HD clutch and it's the best thing I could have bought for the car! It comes with the flywheel, twin clutch and pressure plate. I got a new T.O.B. and SS clutch line and let me tell you I bang every gear and the clutch does not give up no matter how many times I run it! Peddle feel is stiffer then stock and the break in is pretty rough, but after that, it's a great clutch! and little noise compaired to others (only when you press it) No matter if you're on 20 or 31 PSI, the clutch holds and it's the last thing that will be on your mind when you run your car!
