Great...... another oil filter thread

Well, when I first got my Mitsu and went to do the oil change for the first time I noticed the filter I was replacing it with was quite a bit smaller. I did some searching around here and realized that Mitsu had changed filters on us.

So whether this is new news or old news, I don't know.

I went to my local parts store and started to do some digging into the other models like the Mitsu 3000GT/Dodge Stealth (FI model of course) oil filters. Much to my pleasant suprise, I realized the filter was the appropriate size for the Evo.

Without hesitation I bought the Mobil1 part # MI-104, which is listed for the 3000GT or Dodge Stealth, and took the gamble and went home and tried it on. Fits like a glove.

In correlation to what Mitsu did with the change in their filters, this is waht people mean. The MI-110 is the same size as the ones Mitsu is replacing their bigger original ones with. On the other hand the MI-104 is the same size as the OEM filter that came on the car. Hope I worded that correctly.

I'll let the pics explain.

Sorry if this is not new news, just thought i'd share the info that I had acquired.

****Cliff Notes: The Mobil1 part # MI-104 for the Dodge Stealth turbo/ 3000GT fit the Evo like a glove and are the original size as the OEM one. Do not use the Mobil1 part # MI-110, which is listed for the Evo, but is much smaller.

The original filters on the cars are MDxxxxxx, and the new OEM one is MZxxx116 I believe. (From memory, don't shoot me)

There's a few threads about it bouncing around on here. I just went with the new OEM one on my first change, I might re-evaluate for a better filter next time, haven't decided yet.

Just because its bigger doesnt mean its better. LOL. No but seriously, I heard that newer filters are constructed better inside and bump up oil pressure in some cases.

I never implied that a bigger filter is better. But this filter is the same size as the original filter.

Since Mitsu offers the smaller ones I wanted an alternative and came up with this.

Great post, thanks for this. I was in the middle of my 1st oil change, and I couldn't find a Purolator But I did remember you saying about the M1-104 being a better size match, thanks again.

The new OEM one they give at the dealership is MZ690116. The old one I believe is MZ690072. When I went to the dealership to get filter to do my first oil change, I was confused when I got home and saw the difference in the two filters. I thought the stupid service guy gave me the wrong one. So I went back and he told me that he gave me the right one but I insisted I get the old one (MZ690072). I guess the new one does fit after all.

Old thread.

I buy filters in bulk. I've gotten the small, fat ones and the tall skinny ones. All work just dandy. I do like the idea of the K&N ones with the spot for a socket so an oil filter wrench isn't needed.

Ive used the M1-104 for awhile now, works great.
I had the M1-110 and found out the 104 is better from a few ppl here..

oil was alot cleaner with the 104 after a change than it ever was with the 110 and I change every 2500 miles religously.
just my 02.
use whichever model/brand you can get...
