Someone remove their manifold already!
It seems a little too good to be true....and when something seems to good to be true, it usually is.

Just spoke to a local tuner who has an Evo and he said there is no truth to this. He has taken the turbo apart four or five times and confirms that there is only one gasket between the turbo and exhaust manifold. This is one for the urban legend books!!

This could hurt sales big time!

Believe me I want this to be true just as much as everybody else. But.... sorry.

Would this be something along the lines of the 32mm turbo restrictor that all the wrc cars have to use. If that is the case, removing it in principle would generate that sort of HP gain.

here is something to think about. i had a turbo Z back in da day.. and i had to put on a muffler real quick(it had a 2 1/4 in out let and i gained some low end but lost about 800 rpms of the powerband and about 1lb of boost. this was a restriction after the turbo though. when i opened it up to a 3 in i felt more power all the way to the stock rev limiter (7K) and i gained about a lb and 1/2 of boost with the valve all the way open. hoep this helps. but if you a restriction before the turbo the velocity will be the same... but not the volume. hence a hose as an example. if you put a small crimp on it the water does not really slow down... but you do not get teh same amount of GPM(gallons per minute) if you crimp it more however the velocity would largely increase but teh volume would be very minimal. in other words the restrictor would cause more back pressure which could accomidate the higher end rich fuel situation.
please correct me if i am wrong
hope this helps though

If you guys just wait there will be a whole slew of performance stuff from the factory from
and ralliart, trust me that is true about the gasket.
was kind enough to give us evo owner a 5 year warrenty when before it was going to have to be purchase like the viper or TT porshe. They did those restrictions for a reason.

OZ Rally guy:
You need to have the Tech come on here, or at least have Fireball coroborate what you say the tech said. Fireball has credibility on here, whereas you don't (at least yet, anyway). Like SC said--it sounds too good to be true. They COULD have changed the exhaust manifold
, but all of this is conjecture at this point. After all the rumor garbage pre evo release, the last thing we want is another one.

I'd pull the damn thing off my car if I were not home sick... hell, I'm to laid up to jerk off... I seriously doubt this to be true though... unless the "restrictor" were to be at a different location...

However, I've also heard, if you do this (and it works), it's pretty much an insta-void of your warranty if you have any engine related problems and they notice that you made this modification.

Or simply due to the fact your running on lower Octane then what we run here in Japland. IIRC as stated on the press release "specially tuned for gasoline octane numbers used in the U.S." course you know why...to conform to your emission regulations. I don't think the small gain is substantial unless it really exist!...when most of you, I assume will start dropping in 2835 or 3037S once the car is run in.
Cheers
