Unfortunately, yes. You got an expensive, name-brand mod that does not add power, but adds noise and the illusion of power, and one can only guess that you got it for "status" reasons as opposed to trying to actually make power and make the car run well. For less than the cost of the intake with no visible change in the car and no change in noise, you could have gained 20-30whp from a flash. With a flash and MBC, you'd spend about the same amount as the HKS RS and have a LOT of power gains.

Food for thought...

i will most likely get a flash. and i find it hard to believe that a drop in filter, with the restrictive intake pipe gains more hp then an aftermarket intake.

i guess my friends evo that he had built my ams is a ricer car too. also both my mustang must be a ricers car, and my friends 600hp talon, pure rice

Its not the filter to blame really its the way the ecu was tuned with the bad intake on an evo. After all the mitsubishi techs have compensated the bad intake with fuel on a curve. You change your intake and the curve gets way off :P

All that correct warrtalon?

LOL,

Just messing with you a little.

The stock airbox on the Evo is very good when using the stock Karmen
vortex MAF. The truth is your money would be better spent on something else.

$70.00
i.e. good drop in panel filter.

$90.00 to $150.00 max
A good induction pipe.

You misunderstand. A 600hp talon did not make 600hp by ONLY installing an intake. It has a huge turbo that absolutely requires a huge open intake. Your car is stock, and instead of researching on the Evo to see what works, you bought a $250 intake that does nothing except make noise and throw off the stock tune considerably. Also, changing the MAF pipe should be the least of your worries. Changing the filter CAN make power, but there is no need to change the MAF pipe. Maybe when you make more than 583whp, which has already been done on the completely stock intake, then you can start worrying about such things...

I asked around in previous threads, and got peoples input. some said their cars ran fine, some said they needed a tune afterwords. the car wont be 100% stock, i just want certain parts to make it fit my needs. I got tired of driving a fully worked mustang, so I bought something else to daily drive, and get some power out of.

As of right now, I just want to fix the car.

Keep the intake, but install the old one back in for now.

Schedule yourself a custom tune with a shop and get the power of that mod.

You should just get Evolution Air Filter Kit made by Buschur Racing ($90 shipped). My car runs great without any problems. Good luck!

I've never seen the HKS piece personally, but some guy here who was having trouble after installing an HKS intake called me an idiot because I didn't realize you could put the MAF in backwards with the HKS kit.

Like I said, I've never personally seen an HKS intake kit, so unless HKS includes an adapter piece that makes it possible to actually install the MAF backwards and still bolt up to the air filter and intake pipe to the turbo, it might be something worth checking out. Hint, the honeycomb should point to the intake filter, not the turbo.

It never ceases to amaze me, most BOV threads and intake threads are posted by newbies.

Honestly your best bang for the buck to start.

1.) Drop in Panel filter.
2.) Turbo Back Exhaust ( You don't need to spend a fortune for a name brand )
3.) Manual Boost Controller
4.) Flash
5.) JDM MR BOV ( Same as Evo IX BOV )

This will make you happy for a while.
Until you get used to it.
