installing valentine 1, tapping into left a piller
hey guys.. i was recently hard-wiring my valentine and i tapped into the red/yellow w/ crimps and the black for my ground and for some reason the unit doesnt turn on. The red wire doesnt seem to power it either.. if i heard right i thought the red/yellow was the sunroof wire, i tried it with the car on and off btw. any ideas? am i retarded? Thanks!

you need to get a multimeter or a test light to make sure you have power and are splicing into the right wires. going by colors is not always your best bet.

yah.. tapping into random wires is bad, you'll start blowing fuses if you aren't careful. Or you might put it on something that is always on. Gotta find something wired to an ACC. fuse with the proper ampridge on it.

Why dont you just run wires a little longer, go down the A-pillar and tap some known good wires.. heck, even the cigarette lighter power!
The A pillar snaps off, and snaps on.. much easier than trying to get to the sunroof wire. Seeing as you're in there, you just need to use the test light to tap for a power that turns on when the car is on. So ground the wire on the frame, turn on the car to the ON position and start tapping away. Once you find a light, then turn the ign to the off to find out if it indeed shuts off when the car is off.
Good luck, it's not that hard, just don't short anything out

I used the V1 hard-wire kit and a fuse adapter, and plugged the adapter into the fuse socket for the rear-window wiper motor, in the fuse box by my left knee. Worked like a charm and no splicing involved ...
i used the ciggarette lighter for power. Just make sure you throw away the vampire clips and take wire strippers to the wires. Strip a little bit, twist together, and electrical tape em. I used the vampire clip @ first but after 6 months the unit would turn on and off @ random. Had to take evrything apart again and do what I just said.
Wow. I hate cutting and stripping OEM wires. The fuse adapter lets you put the car back to stock without touching any of your car's precious insulation or wires. They're maybe $3 at Pep Boys.
