Where were you when...
Saw my first ones at the drag strip. I was spanking every one of them in my 03 WRX with TBE and boost controller. It was really sad to see them running 14's and 15's since they didn't know how to drive. Then I stumbled past one at a Nissan dealer just over a year ago. 8310 miles on her, perfect shape. I took a test drive and took her home for 23,600! I don't think the dealer knew what they had. I go through cars like people go through underwear, and this is the first one I can sell for a profit at anytime, and also the first car that I don't ever want to sell!
in '03 my friends and i were cruising the streets and then out of nowhere a red evo shows up and just kills every single one of us
it was in that moment that i both hated evos and wanted to have one... not even a month later i had the new toy in the garage... thanks red evo for killing all of us that evening

in Barbados... there was an old Evo IV and an older style WRX that passed in front of my hotel almost every day, I and I was so pissed that we didn't get them in the USA...
The first Evo VIII I saw in person was at a big dealer here in NoVA that was the first in the area to get them. When I saw it in person, I called the Subaru dealer I had been dealing with and said "never mind, change of plans"...

Back in 2002 on our honeymoon I saw one in the Bahamas, Evo VII. Took more video of that then then rest of the trip. Still have that video
.
First time I new Id own one was at the St Louis auto-show right before they came out. Told my wife Id own one someday and 2 years later it was mine.

I think we are talking about in person, not pictures, video games or movies. The 1st time I saw one was at the
dealership in Iowa City Iowa. Man was I depressed that I had bought a WRX
... Waited til 2004 and then ordered my GG 05 MR ... Couldn't be happier. I own the car of my dreams
It puts a smile on my face everyday, as I think about the fact that I actually own a JDM supercar!!!

I'd only seen one in person twice before I bought mine:
First was at the Mitsubishi dealership up in Erie. I had the day off, so I drove up specifically to see if they had any. This was probably in the summer of '05, and at that point I still really wanted the STi, but I'd heard so much about them that I wanted to see one in person.
The only one they had was a used one - black - '04 I believe. Had the salesguy open it up so I could sit in it. Didn't take it out for a test drive or anything, as I wasn't going to buy it; I just wanted to see one in person rather than pictures in a magazine or online. I liked it, and didn't think the interior was as bad as people had made it out to be, but it still didn't make me want that over the Subaru. I grabbed a brochure just for kicks and left.
The next time was in February of this year at the Pittsburgh Auto Show (it was an '06 MR in white). By that point I was about 90% sure I wanted an Evo over the STi, and more than anything those were the two cars I wanted to see at the auto show. Got a chance to sit in both, and study them up close. By the time I left that evening I had decided the Evo was the car for me.
Next time I ever saw one was when the delivery truck pulled up outside of my house back in April!
Had never driven one until I backed it off the truck, but it exceeded all my expectations.
It's funny though - barring an Evo meet, there's only been one other time I've seen one "in the wild". A month or two back I was at the Sam's Club in Butler and I could swear I saw a black/grey Evo pull in to the entrance just as I was coming out of the store. Only got a glance, and it was pretty far away, so I couldn't tell any more specifics other than it sounded like it had an aftermarket exhaust.
