Where were you when...
I knew about evos since 2003, but didn't really see any or pay attention to them until my friend got a 04 STi. A few months later my other friend got an '05 Tarmac Black Evo. That's really the first time I noticed evos. I had my heart set on an STi, but that quickly changed.
I bought an evo about 8 months later after selling my mustang. I couldn't be happier!

I've known about fast AWD turbo cars since my USAF days in Japan back in '91-'93. Crazy 10 second DOT tired Skyline GT-Rs tearing up the streets at the local street races in Hachinohe. And I always told myself if I ever sell the Buick, it's either going to be a '89-'93 Skyline GT-R R32 or an EVO. I was a participating racer at the 2003 Buick GS Nationals with my 10.00 @ 135mph 1986 Buick T-Type running in Turbo Street Eliminator. My B&M Quick Silver shifter had broken during my first round qualifying and I was tooling around Bowling Green KY waiting for my replacement shifter to come in at the local speed shop. (Shout out to Scotty's on Scottsdale Rd) I thought, well let's stop by the Mitsu dealership and see if they have any new EVOs. They did indeed. A silver one and a Red metallic one. I knew I would be bannished from my Buick buddies for what my eventual plans would entail. I test drove the Metallic Red car. The salesman was impressed when I lauched it at a redlight and ran it up through the gears. I thought, it's got easy mid 12 sec potential with just bolt ons, now if only they'd come out with some sort of Metallic Grey color option. The only thing I didn't particularly care for was the stiff ride. I started reading about the MR edition with the Bilsteins and GG paint and I was sold. I actually saw the car that I would eventually own in August of 2004 at my local Mitsu dealership. She only had 10 miles. Fast forward to January 3rd 2005. I was at the turning point. In one day I sold by pride and joy T-Type of 11 years and that night picked up my new baby, an '05 GG MR. Drove her home that night with an impending snow storm and not even a test drive. I haven't regretted the change one bit. Sure I miss the Buick some, but I don't miss worrying about breaking something everytime I go to the track and not being able to cruise without running straight C-16 all the time. The no warranty and lack of affordable parts is what really drove me to the EVO vs a Skyline. This car has everything. I felt it only right to pass along my vanity plate that I ran for 11 years on the Buick to the MR.

Saw plenty while growing up in Singapore but the first one I saw that truly knocked me off my feet? In '99 or '00, while back in Singapore on vacation, in the doctor's parking lot at a hospital, saw a blue 6.5 TME and knew that one day I'd have to have one....the 6.5 TME will always just be a pipe dream but at least I have an Evo.
First one I saw was in my housing track in 2003. It was a blue VIII, parked on the side of the street. Thought it was bad *** looking, pissed and mean. It moved away 2 years later. Then mine moved in about 5 months ago.

First time I saw one in person was at the Chicago Auto Show in 2002. I went to Schaumburg Mitsu in Feb 2003 the weekend they got their first batch of Evos. Their showroom was only Evos and they were selling them to suckers for $40000. I wouldn't even buy a can of pop from them now because of that crap.
First Evo I remember seeing was Tommi Makinens recce car, Rally Australia 1997. Was an Evo IV, stripped, caged etc, all white.
Then that night at Langley Park for Shakedown, his Group A Evo IV.
Im sure I'd seen them around before that, but I don't remember it!

I remember seeing two Evo VIIIs, a yellow and red in Omaha sometime during early 2003. I remember bugging the local dealership on when they'd have them in stock.
