I put my money on the Evo 8 with the 3"TB being faster than the Evo 9. It makes a lot of sense. The Evo 8 with a full 3" TB picks up a couple of psi of boost and nearly 25-30whp.

Again, it sounds very logical to me.

I test drove a IX last month. I thought it was just a little slower than my VIII with cams, but the driveability (smooth) was much better than my VIII. (Still perfecting my tune though).

mmmm...TBE, reflash and cams got me 12.0 on my VIII. Rule of thumb is, IXs are .1/.2 secs faster than VIIIs with similar mods. You're talking almost a second between IXs and VIIIs. Drivers make a huge difference.

By the way, stock hotsides on 05 VIIIs are 10.5, not 9.8

i think that my VIII will beat his ix at a strip dont you?
1. i am lighter
2. i think i will have better launch b/c of my tires, and b/c he has never launched his car hard before
3. i dont know if i have more power than him or not but i hope i do...
I thought that the only difference between them was the catback...

I can just smell the tension between 05 owners and the IX owners. Gentleman we need to schedule a VIII vs IX day at englishtown here in my backyard and settle this dispute the only way possible.

btw: Why would you even question that your 05 BPU evo with weight reduction would have any problem taking down a stock IX with some audio equipment, the speakers arent making him any faster thats for sure. Since he is stock im assuming he is still running the advans which are better than your rt's.

I dont know about you guys, but i finally got on my IX last night and that thing is VERY quick for being bone stock.. The turbo comes on even sooner than my 05 that was modified. The low-midrange is incredible.. Definitely i can tell the difference between the VIII and IX after owning both

The audio system isn't going to make a difference. Are you saying you don't have speakers and a head unit in your car? If not, that'll make like a 5 lb difference unless he got all crazy and had a butt load of custom work done.

If he was smart, he just threw a subbox in the car and attached the amp to the subbox instead of getting a lot of custom work done. This is what I did, so all I have to do is detach the subbox and yank it out before I hit the track. Either way, with the subbox in there, it's only a 19lb increase in weight. Not significant. However, I'd still remove it at the track for multiple reasons. In other words, if he leaves in the subs when he goes to the track with you, he's retarded.

But, I'd say with your mods, you'd beat him pretty easily. However, I wouldn't say anything until you hit the track. You never know...

sounds like your somewhat paranoid about not being able to beat a stock IX?

just do your VIII up even more like someone suggested and go whoop his *** eitherway.

8's own 9's in the long run so far.

9's own for bolt ons since they have a bigger turbo housing.

however start really building an evo8 and all the proven HIGH END cams and tuning devices will own what a 9 can do.

i know a guy down here with an evo9 with the following

AMS 2.3l stroker
AMS stg 3 head
AMS VSR intake manifold
AMS gt35r
tubro trix cams
meth boosting 30 psi

he's making about 515whp

whats that you say? he should be nearer to 600? i agree. but not many tuners know how to tune an evo9 aem ems. he is waiting on results before he buys it. so he's stuck on the stock ecu.

with an 8 and those mods, you could throw on an aem ems, speed density and many people could tune it and make 600whp.

in the end 9's will probably beat out the 8's but until people get more familiar on tuning the evo9 aem ems and some better cams come out for 9's, the 8's will have the edge on high numbers.

evo8 JUN cams ftw! i bet when they come out for the 9 they are going to be nasty though!

Comparison!

I actually owned an VIII with cams and gears and an xedy tuned by vishnu. I can tell you that my VIII felt about as quick as my IX with my 3"dp back setup. But, keep in mind that I only had a exhaust on my IX not a tune or cams. KNow that my car is flashed by AMS it isn't even a close comparison.

ok. ill rephrase. it only made 515 on ams's dyno. should be at or near 600whp though. he's on stock ecu. what part about my post made you think that he was just on some low reading dyno? he needs better engine management and he wont be buying an aem ems until he sees them get proven and someone know how to tune it well.

To make a good comparison, i ran 12.43@110 with my 05 with a catless tbe, mbc, o2 housing, fp, flash and a clutch and flywheel.. I will add these parts to my IX once its broken in and take it to the track to see the results
