access. belts too tight can it cause other problems???

access. belts too tight can it cause other problems???
there is alot of noises by the power steering and compressor and the pulleys and i tried listening to them with a stephscope and they are all pretty loud. but i cant tell which is bad and good. can i run the car w/o the belt for 30 sec to find out or no? does any one have any ideas please help me out...

does the power steering belt adjustable???? how much is it for a manual book??? i have alot of noise under the hood and it seems to be coming from my pulleys or some sort. im not to sure where. any one with ideas let me know ok.
