it's not 1 single relay, its 2 relays, and a computerized circuit board.
I took apart the front ecu, as far as i could tell, it also controls windshield wipers, headlights, foglights, and a few other things. problem is that circuit board (the brown thing between the relays) is wrapped tight. I will show it to you guys.

All the relays and resistors are soldered in, so it is a ***** to take apart, and the verticle placement of the circuit board makes it very difficult for me to read. I am fairly sure that the circuit relay to turn on the fogs is a negative relay, I just have to switch it from headlight to parking light. i need the front wiring diagram for that in order for me to figure it out.

oh btw, if anyone is wondering where the hell the "front" ecu is, it's in the engine bay fuse box labeled "front ecu"

anyway, the 1 wire mod didn't work on my evo.

and yes, i could very easily bypass all the wiring, and wire the fogs on a seperate relay, but i want to make it even easier, cause i don't want to ghetto wire my evo.

wait so you tried the 1 wire mod as per the socalevo thread??? that only works for 05s. did you try your own one wire mod by testing wtih a multimeter???

I did, and when i turned on the foglight switch, the windshield wiper turned on as well as the foglight!.

It was real fast, so i never bothered to try again w/ a multimeter since people "borrowed" both my analog and digital multimeter...

mmm well it seems impossible that one relay controls all those functions because they all operate seperately of each other just fine in "stock config"

the problem is isolating the proper wire/lead coming from the relay... that's why the multimeter is important. you need to test all the combos.

Yes, I agree, unfortunately all the relay's are soldered to the front ecu, and I want to read the circuit board, but the board is wedged between the frontecu relays...

I tried the socal way, and i have an 05 w/ ssl.

basically, a signal from the headlight relay is needed to turn on the foglight relay. all i want to do is change the signal to come from the parking light relay. unfortunately, I need to be able to read a wiring diagram to figure it out.

i think the relays are the same... the only difference is the additional relays that are hooked up to the hids directly, they're tucked away somehwere, not in the fusebox.

can't you just hook up a relay from the battery to the fog light and splice the wire from the parking light, so that when ever you turn on the parking light, the fogs turn on and it'll get the power from the battery.

You can buy a relay from radio shack for $4. the relay should have 4 small tabs.
12V, ground, signal wire, and one other one you don't use...
signal wire is the one you would splice into the corner light, so whenever you turn on your corner light...the fogs should turn on.
12V should go to the battery...

You can cut the connection for the fogs in the fuse box and connect it to the parking light control in the fuse box. Not sure if you should do this with stock fogs, but I made a wire harness for the fogs the same time I made a wire harness for my HID's and that is how my setup is right now. You can control the fogs with the parking light control.

how did you make your harness? any diagrams?

How about just finding out how much power the relay draws with a multi-meter and give it a direct connection from the battery, with a voltage reducer if necessary. That way you can turn on the fogs with out the parking lights or headlights. I think this would be the best situation. Any input from any one, I think this might work right?

very easy to do, also, you put in a seperate switch to override it.
we have been trying to do it w/o any wiring/mods as well. ai have figured out that each evo has different front ecu's; thats why some euro/japan models have speed sensetive wipers, and etc, cause the front ecu controls everything including the lighting. this is also why the socal method doesn't work on all cars including mine, and I have an 05 ssl(but it's an early one, maybe the later ones have a few differences.)

FWIW, running with fog lamps on without headlamps is illegal in most parts of the country. I learned the hard way.
