Protect and serve my a$$.....Too bad we can't hire more qualified individuals to truly 'protect and serve' and change a few laws while we are at it...

I have met some wonderful officers in my life, but unfortunately there are too many that either (a) were abused, or (b) have something to prove, or (c) jealous, or (d) dishonest. Unfortunately one could also say the same about many of corporate America's execs.....Oh well, don't break the law and the cops can only hassle you for petty things (e.g. being pulled over in a stock evo for a loud exhaust)....

Couple of comments:

Don't change your vehicle or lifestyle because of another group. If you don't like wings then take it off (I just think it looks unfinished), but please don't do it because of a perception and you will do nothing but give the other group power. So what's next, LEOs are going after white cars and now you'll paint your car red?

As far as this citation, it's legal. And I compliement you for not arguing on the side of the road. Your case is with the udge not the LEO.

I will close with my story. On my way from Cali to Texas just before Amarillo my Ka band went off so I set the cruise control to the speed limit. I passed a Trooper sitting inside the middle median and of course as I passed him and entered the freeay and must have set some speed record to get behind me. But guess what I wasn't speeding, I wasn't using the phone, my windows were not tinted, my tags were current so he had nothing to pull me over for. He did this for a few miles then he made a U turn and sped off the other way. Guess who comes flying up 2 minutes later and start to follow me again? So we do this for 2 more times and on the 3rd try I waved at him with a smile. I must have pissed him off as he just sped off.

i wasnt drunk though thats the thing. i blew a .036 i had few shots. lol i dont blame it on the evo, but i drive everywhere like i would normally and the cops here are horrible about seeing cars like that. its like coming from a bar or just driving around or what not at 2 in the morning thats when the clubs and stuff are out. if your a cop and see a evo driving around, and see a chevy cavalier who are you going to suspect has been drinking ??? im going to get another sometime next year

Guys like it or not we, as I think do drive Japanese Supercars, Cops now know how fast our cars are.Think about it how many 4 door imports do 0-60 in around 4seconds. With all the press and F&F movies they recognize them. Sorry you got a ticket that sucks man, I bet if you bring the current registration in with you you'll be ok. Good luck!

I love threads like this.....It's almost too simple to be true: Don't break the law, and you won't get into trouble. Are there bad cops? Absolutely. Will some pull you over for 'no reason'? Possibly. Everybody who has ever bought an Evo should have known that this car attracts attention. You don't want the attention or the hassels? Buy a Buick. Other than that, if you keep it safe and legal, you have nothing to worry about.

In CO you have a 1 month grace period so your Nov tags would have been fine through Dec. I guess the law varies per state.

The last time I got pulled over, 65 in a 55 busted by aircraft , the first thing out of the cops mouth was "This isnt a Subaru?" No wonder I got pulled over

Hahahahaha...
That happened to me once.
A cop followed me to a different friggin city just to try and find what was wrong with my car...
Then he pulled me over, and started listing all the reasons why he should give me a tickets, all of which I shot down with extreme furiosity.
Dont be nice to these cops. They dont deserve it...
"Protect and Serve", eh????
DOnt make me laugh...

Here's a quick little observation, I own an old retired unmarked police car, and you'd be surprised how "Suspiciously" people drive when they think there is a cop car behind them..

How many people really go exactly the speed limit and pay really close attention to everything including keeping your hands on the wheel and whatnot?

I don't know whether you were profiled or not, since its likely that you were, but if you just drove as you normally would (not wildly speeding obviously) you might not have acted suspiciously enough to warrant a traffic stop.

THe only time I really ever saw people do that stuff is when their car was clearly in disrepair or some other obvious fault that you'd pick up after I pass them when I finally got frustrated enough that their driving too slowly for surrounding traffic..

Oh, and FWIW I have been pulled over several times in my Evo.. all of them which I had clearly done something wrong.. Once I was doing a "road dyno pull" on my car to test out the new turbo I installed. All of these times, the only ticket I got was for an expired inspection or no front plate.. And the cops were very cool about it. Sometimes you just have to admit your faults (if you did do something wrong and realized it) and be polite, and try to be conversational.

If you get out of the car with an attitude, try to argue, and overall act kinda thuggy, they will find anything they can to ticket you more than the warning they might have issued.

In your case, you did something wrong, you explained it, he will note it in his notes for the summons, when you appear you bring the new paperwork and it'll be dismissed. If you have paperwork that shows you were away when it expired and acted diligently, it'll never go any further. I do understand your frustration with having to appear, I hate having to go through that. But I do have fun debating and arguing my points, and generally win in traffic court if I need to go.

It happens....

My wife was driving to work one day in her accord. She gets rear ended by some guy. She gets a ticket for expired reg (about $90 too) and he gets one for following too close. Just one of those things. It's just a shame the renewal form went to her previous address at her parents and we hadn't received it. Just accept it and move on.
