I mean.. Why an evo then?
Its not like its the best looking car for its price... Not even close.
And picking up the ladies only comes once a while...
Why an Evo? Why a Lamborghini? You can't drive 205 mph on a public highway.

Whether I bought an STi or an Evo, I wouldn't have purchased either one of them to race. I purchased the STi because I love the car. I didn't purchase it to race, and I've never made any bones about it. Yeah, I take spirited drives, and yeah, I put my foot to the floor on more than a few occasions, but the car has never been down the 1/4 mile, at the road course, or beaten into the ground. I can honestly say with a straight face that I have never abused my STi.....I mean, really beat the Hell out of it.

I didn't buy my Camaro to race. I bought it because I liked it. I bought it to cruise in. Every car I have purchased, I've purchased them because I've loved them, whether it be their performance, looks, or their legacy.

You're right, there are many cars out there that look better than the Evo, but why did you buy the Evo? It's because you love the driving experience.

It has nothing to do with the car being fast. It has everything to do with the stereotype (real or imagined) of the owners. The kids who put fart cans and primered body kits, Type R badges and slam their Civics get the same attention - does anyone really believe that's because those are japanese super cars?

I've been on two long trips in the Evo, and have garnered no more or less attention than if I was in my work truck or my wife's Volvo. Through, the Bay, through LA and San Diego, on Highway 5, on 101. I've passed a few Chippies and been passed by a few - they seem to be pretty indifferent to the wing and to the universal awe-inspiring street cred of the Evo.

As to profiling - it probably happens. How many 16-18 year old Evo drivers do we see posting around here? How many stories in this thread alone about blowing off as you pass a cop? How many stories a week about some kid who just wrapped his Evo around a tree? How many articles posted about the high insurance rates for these cars?

With all of this in mind, do any of you truly find it surprising that some cops may pay a little more attention to these cars?

In the 4 states that I've lived in, registration notices come at least a month before expiration. So, if it's the same in CT, the OP would have had to been away for quite a period not to have seen his notice.

He was certainly followed because of his car...no doubt.

This is a good example to have your stuff in order when you drive a car that is a cop magnet. Bottom line, if his registration was current, the cop would have had no reason to pull him over.

Crap like this just goes with the territory....

Not to mention it's not exactly a secret when your registration gets renewed, it's on your birthday! Planning ahead FTW. Not to mention most if not all states offer online renewals.

I like threads like this. "My car is RR it attracts more attention." "I need to lose the wing." The fact of the matter is if you are legal, the cops won't give you a 2nd look. If your tint is legal, the exhaust not that loud, have a front plate in a state that requires a front plate (IL) cops won't bother you. I gave these examples since they are the easiest things to spot out.

I have a RR 03 with the wing still attached which I drive everywhere....even in towns where the cops are a little more "aggressive." Most of them just glance in my direction.

In short: STAY LEGAL AND THE POLICE WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE!

The trooper took a long walk around the car and was eyeballin it like he was a fat kid drooling over some candy. So finally while I was in the process of pumping my gas he comes up to me and asks "is this an evo?" I replied yes and then we started to talk about cars....turns out he has a '99 gsx that runs 11's. Not all cops are a$$holes just like not all evo drivers are immature idiots. Its always the few that spoil it for the rest of us.

Watch me get a ticket later today for something stupid...lol (knocking on wood)
Im quoting myself cause today I was pulled over for my window tint...I know I know its too dark.....

Anyways I was on my way to the store sitting at a stop sign when a cop went by. I turned onto the road and there's a car between me and him. He proceeds to pull over and let me pass him then flips on his lights. I pull over on a side street and pull out reg, ins, and lic....He comes up to the car and asks if I know the tint is illegal. I reply politely yes and explain why I have the dark tint. He says OK asks me if Im military cause I have an out of state ID and then goes back to the squad car and issues me a "warning/10 fix it ticket."
Point is I have a yellow wingless evo that wasnt even moving....last time I defend any cops on here....lol J/K

I broke the law willingly by putting dark tint on my car because in the past Ive had multiple cars broken into and tint is just one more deterrent. Im willing to take the punishment and will continue to run tint on my car cause the benefits out weight the consequences.

OK im done, just thought Id share my experience....

i love these people that always say take off the wing. f that i did not pay $30k for this car so i can take off the wing b/c cops are a**holes. the car looks better with the wing (and im not talking about the low profile wing). you want the low profile wing then go buy a ralliart or oz rally lancer or better yet just go buy a lancer es.

ok brian here is an example. i know you know the area b/c i have met you. driving down schaumburg road around 10 p.m. (doing under the speed limit)the cop flips around by the schaumburg high school and does not turn on his lights. he follows me then i get pulled over. cop claims that he thought i had tints on the front of my white evo. there are no tints there. once he gets up to the car, i ask why did you pull me over and he goes i thought you had tints on your front windows, but when you turned i realized that you didnt. now mind you he didnt flip on the lights til after i turned. he sits there and another cop pulls up. he proceeds to waste 10 mins of my time instead of letting me go, just searching for a reason to try and give me a ticket. so based on that example. the cop is an a**hole.

ya don't get me wrong, I know my registration was expired and it was fine for him to pull me over...not pissed about that, just the fact that he purposely followed me looking for a reason to pull me over...

It takes all kinds to make the world go round, unfortunately you've met the _a_ bad one but that doesn't mean that they are all bad and out to get you. Schaumpton is the single worst place in this state to be driving in period, there are too many idiot kids with high powered cars and it's mecca for ricers. It's not surprising that the cops have zero tolerance there and pull people over, remember the lynching with weapons at borders?

I've had bad dealings, I've had good dealings with law enforcement. Leaving P&L I got pulled over in stone park for an exhaust. I would have pulled myself over as well as I was flying when I passed him. I could have gotten a ticket for no license, no proof of insurance, no front plate, exhaust, and speeding but the guy let me off with only a fix it ticket for the front plate.

I don't knwo about you but I didn't pay 30K for a wing. I paid for the whole package from looks to cornering to speed. We all have different ideas of what looks good and if someone likes the wingless or small wing let them, not hurting a thing.

my point on this is everytime there is a problem on an evo there are tons of people that come out and say "take off the wing and it will all go away". that is not going to do anything. cops know evo's wing or no wing.
