ITs common for those to loosenj up, The valve cover gasket isn't pusing back on the cover as it was when it was new so the bolts feel loose.

just curious about your torque spec...is it 31 INCH/pounds or 31 FOOT/ pounds?

both are real numbers, but drastically different. (Yes there is such a thing as an inch/pound, for those of you who may be wondering...).

thanks, again, just curious, as I have never checked these and intend to , now that you mention it.

I was wondering myself if you meant 31 ft lbs. I dont even think that they could take 10 ft lbs without breaking. LOL. That is weird that they were THAT loose. Who knows though.

You aren't done yet. There's more than 6 bolts. Look under the cover.

These bolts need to be torqued every 12,000 miles. It should be listed as a maintenance item. After about three tightenings the gasket will leak anyway and then a new gasket is needed. Over tighten and you will cry at the price of a new cover.

ya IN pounds is a lot different then LB. I found this out the hard way when I was replacing the valve cover gasket on the miata. 31 in/lb is just a little bit tighter then hand tight.
