Acceleration Questions

I just bought my IX last month, its got 1700 miles on it, and I broke it in properly, including changing the oil at 500 miles. I don't drive it hard a lot but when I do, the power seems unreliable.

Somtimes even first gear kinda lags, like its not the usual press you back in the seat fast. I don't know if this is due to me going WOT at a certain RPM or what.

Also, 4th gear seems way too slow, especially if I WOT at 3500 RPM its like it lost its ***** after 3rd gear. Is there a certain way I should time my accelerations or what? It just feels like the car should be faster.

You should down shift instead of gunning it at 3.5k rpms...
Also get a flash from an experienced tuner. Not some random joe
who thinks their a tooner from reading these forums.

downshifting is your friend, but the car does lack power in higher gears when its stock..

~ 3" turboback exhaust (downpipe, test pipe/HFC, cat back), drop in filter/hard pipe intake, MBC, flash. Not necessarily in that order but those 4 things will wake your IX up.

Dont know why your car feels so slow but mine is completely stock and just doesnt stop pulling in any gear. And I used to own an 05 kawi zx6r and it feels a lot like my bike with myself and a passenger on it. Didnt realize that until my girl mentioned it.

Thanks for the responses guys, I guess I just need more rpms when I'm punching it. I'm also not used to such short gear ranges, having come from an RX-7 that gets to 90 in third gear. Is 2000 miles good enough to start modding it?

I don't know why alot of evo owners complain about the power the evo IX makes stock. Imo its very powerfull especialy in the first 3 gears.

Never owned an evo, so I cannot comment on the power, but the first mod I would recommend is definately a full 3 in. turbo back exhaust. Huge gains to be made there. The like another person said before, an ecu flash (done by someone credible), MBC, K&N filter. And it is your car, so you can decide when to start adding the mods. LOL.

It is never too early to mod a Evo. Start ASAP. Just know that you will need a new clutch soon after.

evos espically evo 9's can be very fast when moded but stock evos are very slow slow cars. stock for stock the evo, 350z and s2000 are all about the same slow speed. all trap only about 100mph on the 1/4

and yes the evo has no top end and stock is preatty slow espically after 3rd gear if the car is stock

Uh, no. IX's trap near 105 in the quarter.
