I have heard that the 9 turbo tapers just the same if not more, but it makes more midrange power and torque. However, none of this is justified, only what I have read and heard from IX owners.

Yeah I think you pretty much nailed it. The 16G IX is not a big numbers turbo, nor is any 16G on an Evo really. I think it's a great street turbo though with awesome autoX and road course potential. It's not a bad drag racing snail but it's definately not optimal for that application either if you're trying to crack into the 11's or 10's. It is however a 100% bolt-on affair with 100% OEM parts. Plug and play really. Until somebody creates an affordable 50 trim kit that retains an OEM-ish look, I think this is our best option on pump. Good luck with every thing dude.

that is exactly how it feels, the taper can be controlled a little, but as i posted early, the taper is a design thing.. but it definitely has more torque and power in the midrange then all of the viii's i've been in and all of the viii's i've done some spirited driving with. just some minor tuning and it doesnt fall off like the viii's do.
Pump Gas and Meth Injection tuned by myself- and i know the IX does not come with 20g wheel - im just saying the IX compressor housing is able to hold good boost in its stock form
It began life as a 100% OEM Mitsubishi 16G and from the outside it still looks like the same turbo. However the OEM 16G compressor wheel has been replaced with a larger, 20G wheel. It would take a week to explain the difference in performance between the two. I'll let the Buschurite disciples do that. Just understand that Mitsubishi does not and has not ever manufactured a 20G for the Evo.
i've always wanted to throw my 03 with the ix turbo on the dyno but never came up to doing it...i have basic mods...full tbe, mbc, intake/dropin...but have yet to tune the car...im planning on calling andy/speedelement but have yet to find a possible day!!!...how the car feel with the ix turbo after the tune turdsquirter?

Free Speed Element plug above. Andy now you gotta give me a good deal on that IX front end swap.
im still waiting for their dyno to get installed as a matter of fact...but wait are you running walbro 255 or a stocker?...i assume a 255 right...i have a ix pump and andy has already confirmed that the ix pump should be good enough and i might as well use it since i bought it!!!...damn i should of just bought a 255lb...
all i can say from my experience is that bolting up the ix 16g to my 03 9.8 16g was a pretty big improvement...it pulls a whole lot harder throughout the power band...the power delivery uptop does die but midrange power has increased...aleast thats what my but dyno says...i even did a placebo(friend)...who didnt know the swap was going to occur...so i had him drive before and after!!!

so did it taper like the 8 turbo did or hold boost a little bit better?? and does it pull uptop better or the same then the 8 turbo??
