ok i will try my hardest to make this clear.
now lets just use easy numbers. lets say the evo runs 20psi of boost. but it taper's down in high rpm. lets say it taper's 2 psi at redline. now the car would be at 18psi at redline. lets say this car made 300hp.
now lets say you slap the evo9 turbo onto the evo8 car. i understand it will make more hp at same boost levels. so now it is making 325hp on 20psi.
now lets say you have 2 dyno graphs. one with the 8 turbo, one with the 9 turbo.
the 8 trubo AFTER peak hp starts to drop off. so will the 9 turbo. but shouldent the 9 turbo not drop off as much or as fast? wouldent that mean it is holding 20psi of boost longer befor it begins to taper. so now your tapering to 19psi at redline. get what im saying??????????
maby im just realy off track here.

also lets just say it can now hold 20psi at redline. wouldent that make even more power uptop?? if so i think that is what people are pushing for when they ask about how taper is. they want to run set boost longer or till redline.
eveyr evo 9 i tune and log boos thave been taper down ot 16-17psi. On the other hand my 04 evo with an evo 9 turbo boost 22psi taper down to 20-19.87psi up to 7400rpm. This base off Zeitronix Widband and MAP sensor.
Those peak HP numbers are realistically only realized for a fraction of a second. You'd be hard pressed to even notice a 15whp increase at WOT if it's only from 6.3K RPM's to 6.8K RPM's. What you will notice however is a 15wtq/20whp increase throughout the powerband beginning at 3.2K RPM's and ending around 6.5K RPM's. Power under the curve baby!
Not getting it. Something to do with my handle but...nope...no idea.

what post are you talking about. you mean my post made sence to where someone understands it????????? wow. i just hope everyone else understands it. it was hard to explan it
no i was talking about turdsquirters comment!!!...as far as the tapering issue, from my research the tapering effect is because of the design of the turbo, by increasing the boost on the turbo its past the effeciency and the only thing coming out of that turbo is hot air...so the only way to really get rid of the tapering issue is to upgrade to a different style turbo(t3/gt30/35r)...but i think this may answer your question!!!

Do I need to change Evo8 Engine internals before upgrading to Evo9 TME turbo?
if it helps any i'm swapping out my stock 8 turbo for a 9 as well...i have an 03 with the 9.8 hotside. Last time i dyno'ed it made around 317whp/320wtq with HKS 272's, stock intercooler and basic bolt ons. Not too worried about boost taper if its gonna make more power throughout the power band. I'm also getting a bigger intercooler and 02 housing so we'll see how it feels before and after.
