Deceleration noise...GONE!!!
Willie and I went to Manfredi Mitsubishi and got them to change engine oil/filter and to flush out our transmission oil. Some metal scrapings were found but after the change the car was smooth as tofu. No more deceleration noise!!! I intend to do another flush at 3000 miles and will keep doing the flush until they no longer find metal scrapings (same concept as wiping your butt ). I think the scrapings were there because the gearbox is new, i highly doubt it's a manufacturing fault. I believe you will feel the same too after you do the same tranny flush, it's just too smooth to be any kind of manufacturing fault. I think the tranny flush costs around $100.

intersting mr boost, I have had the same thing for about a year. Thought that it was backlash in the rear diff. Wasnt, just measured it.
But shifting down into 3rd or 4th gear does give a roar and causes mild vibrations around the same rpm. It is getting a bit louder maybe.
Some believe that it is normal AWD drivetrain noise (my car has been 'emptied out').
I always drive the snot out of my E6 on the Nürburgring.

N.Ring,
i'm not saying that the car is completly silent in deceleration, it still makes that whining dog gear sound, just no more weird grinding sounds from decel. Maybe it's the oil (they used Quaker State), maybe it's the removal of metal particles, I don't know. The car just feels smooth as silk now, which makes me a very happy Evo driver =))).

They used Quaker State when Mobil 1 is specified?

If anybody else cures their tranny noise with this solution, please chime in on this thread.

boosted,
acutally i tried out the decel at 4th gear 3500 rpm earlier, there's that sound, but it's really soft, must softer than before..probably why i didnt notice it.
Quaker State was the transmission oil, they used Mobil 1 for engine oil.
