Evo Longevity

I love my Evolution.... I want to keep it until my engine goes... be it 200k+ miles....

I want to keep my Evo FOREVER!!!! So that means constant rebuilds... how long would a typical rebuilt 4g63 engine last?

Can I keep my Evo forever with rebuilds or does other problems besides the engine happen i.e. rust, suspension wear and tear, transfer case/diff, paint wear??

Will I have to replace all suspension parts?

Is it possible to keep the car for a very very very very long time? Or does the costs of maintenance increase after rebuild and rebuild and rebuild?

Everything wears out eventually. Maintenance is the only way to "slow" down the process.

+1^^ that's funny. Honestly it depends on you and the maintenance. My dad has owned some trucks that had horrible reliability ratings and no vehicle he has ever owned has had less than 120K+ miles. He's sporting a crown vic with 166K and still running strong. He used to tow a boat with that thing too, and the tranny is still fine. Just stay up on oil/tranny fluid and flushes. Spark plgs, and some preventative maitenance and it should last you some time. I know those cars are 180 degrees different types of cars, just using an example.

That is the only full proof plan........... That is unless you own a FD then chances are you'll blow your motor anyways. lol

I agree.

Not cause it's cool to agree, but because I run into this topic time and time again with my Type R and peoples perception and or misconception, many times not even other R owners that cars in similar catagories and of similar caliber should be museumed away and preserved for the future for god knows who or what to enjoy or just look at and polish.

Drive it.

Drive the snot out of it.

Track it.

Track the living daylights outa it.

Keep it in good repair and maintained well and it should provide you with many tens to over a hundred thousand of miles or more of use. Obviously under extreme conditions, extreme maintenance should be performed ritually.

Just as with my R, with the EVO if you blow something there are motors, trannies, etc. a dime a dozen that can replace something damaged. They may not cost a dime but you will get more life and fun out of the car for many years to come.

Enjoy driving it. That was what it was built and meant for.
