Engine Warm-up???
i give it about a minute before i move. since i live in new york we have extreme cold at times which even after 30 seconds i step on the accelerator lightly my car kinda starts to sputter and even died out on me one time. so since then i wait at least one minute before i move. that incident proved the oil needs to be fully circulated before moving. Keep it under 2500 for about 5 min and your good to go.
My M3 manual states not to let the car idle when warming up. Just start and drive. It did mention however to not let the tach exceed the warmup lights on the gauge (they would go down as engine temp increased). However, I would keep it below 3500 rpm until my oil temp reach at least 150F.

these cars run rich right from the factory so just give it a minute or 2 thats all u need......mashing the throttle right after crank over results in some bogging and alot of carbon out the exhaust.

Most experts agree that a warm up is not necessary. My personal opinion is to warm up a minute or two if the temp is below zero. Above that, just start it and by the time you fasten your seat belt, you can go. I keep my RPM's below 2,300 until the engine is up to operating temp. Sitting around for five minutes in Florida to warm up the engine is a waste of gas and not necessary IMHO.

I usually just let the car sit and warm up until the needle on the oil temp gauge touches the bottom indicator notch....unless I'm late for work and then I just hop in and drive keeping the car under or at 3000 on the dot when shifting until the oil temp gauge reaches the mid range (which doesn't take long)...
