Engine Warm-up???

I have both searched and talked to different people about winter car warm-up and some say anywhere from 30sec to full warm up before driving. I know you never drive under any boost until full warm up, but am I wasting time by sitting in the car for 2-3 minutes? I heard its bad to wait that after 30 sec. and driving moderately will warm the car more efficiently. Any thoughts??? Thanks.

you can let it warm up for a minute or two if you have to get going. Just keep it out of boost or reving it above say 3500 rpm,s until the gauge comes up.

I'm wondering the same thing. My friend has 01 Audi S4, and in his manual it strickly says DO NOT WARM UP. Although it says to not go past 4500 RPM before it reaches normal temp.

The manual says not to properly let the cars oil warm up before driving use?

if i remember correctly our evo manual says to let the car warm up until:

"the engine temperature needle starts to move, any long is just wasting gas"

Cool Warm up?

Most experts agree that a warm up is not necessary. My personal opinion is to warm up a minute or two if the temp is below zero. Above that, just start it and by the time you fasten your seat belt, you can go. I keep my RPM's below 2,300 until the engine is up to operating temp. Sitting around for five minutes in Florida to warm up the engine is a waste of gas and not necessary IMHO.

Warm it up fully if you have the time, not just for the engine/turbo, but also for the trans/center diff.

Automatic car start is the way to go. My issue is making sure that the car is warm when I get into it. Hell it gets cold out here!

What????????/ 15 minutes!!!! That is terrible for your car to sit for 15 mins at idle. You are supposed to warm the car up by DRIVING it, not by sitting still.

OP, you can wait 30-60s before you start moving, but after that, start driving out of boost until the engine temps stabilize. Then, you can boost happily. Letting the car idle until it reaches operating temps is bad for the car.

Can you type it out verbatim? I doubt it says not to let the car warm up at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it said not to let the car sit at idle in order to warmup. It would make no sense for Audi to tell its owner to romp on the engine before the engine oil has gotten to operating temps.

Our engines warm up pretty fast. I wait a minute or 2 or at least till the temp needle starts to move. It all depends on the outside temps but 15 minutes is just crazy.

Its more for emissions reasons (warming up the cat ASAP) instead of warming up the oil.
