There is a BIG difference between modifying an exhaust, and replacing an exhaust! If you were not allowed to legally replace your exhaust, Midas Minakee, and a thousand other exhaust company's would not be allowed to be in buisiness! What are you supposed to replace your exhaust only with the factory one when it wares out? Modifyng an exhaust is removing a baffle, cutting a hole in it, gutting it, ect. You are completely in your rights to replace your exhaust with an aftermarket piece. Now noise level is another story completely. It is up to the Officer to prove the exhaust is too loud. Where is his db meter? The average Police dept does not own one, let alone an officer having one in the car with him! Go to court you will win.

1. SWAB. We don't "mop" anything in the Navy.

2. Nope. I've got plenty of people that I outrank that I can make go do that.

3. It's 2050 on Wednesday night right now. Do you really think we swab decks all night long?

4. Please stop with all this stereotyping. It makes my vagina hurt.

Wow good call. Please pwn the people that dedicate their lives to protecting our country. You really sound like an idiot posting that.
As for who you are quoting, I dont think that he thinks that profilling is ALWAYS good but I definately agree with him that sometimes it is necessary, that's just how life is. I mean, read his analogies. There just are situations where you need to profile in order to make the best decision that mgiht protect the most people, or be the most morally good etc....

As for the discussion that is supposed to be at hand... I can't believe the cop feels confident in deciding that the exhaust was too big to be stock and doesnt listen to anything you say. I would say, "what make's you think it's too big? Do you know the exhaust piping on this car is most likely bigger than the piping on your car even though the engine is much smaller? Do you not understand the my car was engineered for a specific purpose and that a certain exhaust size is needed to allow desired exhaust flow rates? Not to mention that many cars have larger exhaust tips than the actual size of the piping in order to be aesthetically pleasing" Wow cop, please learn something before acting or even talking for that matter.

sometimes, cops will pull you over when they think theres a problem, from what i know (by law) cops cant pull you over for nothing...so when they pull you over and they made a mistake, they will find another thing to blame in your car, tint, no front plates, including your stock exhaust.

Yeah, so lowbdgtmechanic hit the nail on the head.

Anyway, I'm not easily offended, so atlvalet didn't get to me at all, and I really don't think he meant anything harsh about it. If he did, well, I'm a Sailor, so I'll probably do something nasty like hook up with his mom or something. :P

Maybe it's just that typing makes opinionated statements seem a lot more harsh than they were originally intended?

sorry to be off-topic a co-worker's son of mine didnt get pulled over but a cop in a police car asked him "how fast can that go?" the son said "why are you asking me?" the cop replied "go ahead, lets see how fast it is, im the cop, you wont get in trouble", at first the son refused to but the cop insisted and there he goes!!! Evo said Bye Bye quick, then the Evo slowed down, the cop pulled next to him saying "thats a fast car, dont do it again." i thought that was funny...we think the cop wanted to buy an Evo too and he was probably around 25-30 yrs old

OP: You have a username that sounds middle eastern and you live in Sugar Land, Texas. I'm going to just guess here that you ran into a racist, country bumpkin cop who was looking for any reason he could find to hassle you. Take it to court, there's no way either of those cites will stick, especially for your stock exhaust. If you really want to dog the cop then call up the ACLU and tell them about it.

Just say "whatever...give me the stupid ticket and I will see you in court!" <---for the exhaust that is...speeding is speeding, so that one is on you.

That sucks, I have had cops ask me if my exhaust was illegal and I say **cough** "maybe". But they never ticket me.

What ever happend to inocent untill proven guilty? Why are these cops wasting your time? This is America isnt it? Burden of proof? On the other hand you do deserve to have your **** pushed in just for living in and or supporting The idiotic state of texas.

I am sure you will want to attack me on this one but before you do I hope you will listen to your theme song to get in the mood.

I got a second "illegal squeeling of the tyres" ticket a few months ago, taking the first to court and paying fines...and the second to a bench trial where the officer didn't show up. I knew I was going to court, but didn't say anything to the officer to sound like a smartass, which could have influenced his appearance. The ticket was obviously dropped with not a penny going to the state, just my attorney.

Also, on my Mustang I've got headers, catless x-pipe, and magnaflow catback...needless to say it's loud and smells. I was given the tip by officers on other forums to always turn off the car and put the keys on the dash so the officer is assured you're not going anywhere and showing respect of sorts. Also at night to turn on the dome light so they can see you have nothing to hide (unless you do haha).

BTW what is the legal dB limit these days for exhausts?

I would assume he's got the option of a court appearance which is the time & place to argue it.

I got a ticket for having a "modified exhaust." I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I did get out of it. I just took my "modified exhaust" off and put the stock one back on and visited my local mitsubishi dealer the next day. I got a written statement from them saying my exhaust is indeed stock and "doesn't appear to have been modified." I also took lots of pictures including some with my license plate in them. I took the pictures and the statement to court and my ticket was immediately dropped, no questions asked! That same day, I put my "modified exhaust" back on. lol.

oh, and for the speeding ticket, you can ask to see the records for the last time that officer's radar gun was calibrated. I'm not sure what the law is on that where you live, but if the records show it hadn't been calibrated within so many days before you received your citation, then you can argue that it was inaccurate and you were indeed going the speed limit. good luck with your ticket, and keep us updated on what happens.
