That is a funny one dude. It took the WRX how long to hit where the EVOs are hitting now? The EVO hasn’t even been out for an entire summer and you are already getting impatient? Give me a break

The argument is that the EVO is much cheaper to mod than the STI. So far that is exactly how it is panning out and the way it is supposed to be.

Speedlimit..

So far the opposite is true. GODSPEED is making over 300whp and 312 ft lbs of torque to the wheels with less than $700 in mods. He supposely also works on EVO's (dyno's them) and they are not making the same HP/Torque as the STi with the same mods. So how is the EVO cheaper to mod. Most owners are going to stop after a few basic mods. 300+ whp and 312 ft lbs of Torque will put an STi in the mid 12s.

I run 12.7 @ 108mph with 275 whp in my WRX.

Let's keep this on topic and leave the Sti vs. Evo debates for OT.

So far the STi is cheaper to mod than the EVO. It's a fact. Both are great cars and everyone has an opinion as to which is better. I prefer the EVO. But the STi is going to produce more power for less money, so get over it.

Can I get a "duh" from the crowd please? As I said on nasioc.com a 3rd grader could tell it's going to be easier to get the STI to 300 awhp faster than the EVO. It has a 29 hp advantage from the start. Lets see what it takes to get the STI to 329 awhp.

That's funny, the original post was about the numbers he achieved. I said the same thing about this post going off topic and you deleted it. But everyone else is still talking about STI vs. EVO? At least I had a related question.

Lets start a thread in OT based upon facts and not dyno racing!

Wow I had no idea my preliminary research data would cause such a stir. I am going to do an EVO here soon with some baseline mods similar to Al. Downpipe, exhaust and an intake. With an E-01 and an E-Manage I'm sure I can also get 300 whp out of the EVO but then again he has spent much more money. Now before you start making assumptions on the turbo sizing, I think you should wait. I was rushed to judgement on that. Unhooking the exhaust I found that he turbo is capable of a bit more boost at higher RPM's and I'll try to get some testing done today before I leave. Looks like the stock exhaust was much more restirctive that I thought. I'll see if I can get 320 whp before I leave tonite and perhaps get some of you to raise your eyebrows even further.

Here's an interesting question:

How's emissions with all those mods? (I mean, with Al's car?)

emissions

Emissions are one of the main reasons Mitsu should consider the 2.4 liter engine. It's a lot easier to make power with good economy and low emissions on pump gas if you go to a little higher displacement.

Which experience? Do you have any experience with the 2.5?
I thought you experimented with the 2.0 STi? I think the new 2.5 is a completely different story.

You can't compare dyno runs for different cars on different dyno's. The peak numbers are meaningless and I'm not arguing peak HP numbers, I'm argueing that it will be cheaper to make the EVO go faster. Look at the difference in track times between the two cars stock; less than a 29hp advantage would indicate, and in some cases the EVO was faster. So we'll see....

Both cars will eat F and J bodies as snacks with a few simple mods. Gonna be a lot of surprised V8 owners this summer.

Full RMR set up 3" turbo back

Btw - it took me from March 2001 - August 2001 to get my WRX to run 12.78 at 107.5 mph - which at the time was the fastest WRX in the US from then till Nov 2001 when Nathan at Turboxs ran a 12.5 - - - it took a turbo upgrade; bigger injectors, intercooler, exhuast, unichip, boost controller and fuel pump to get there

It took only two months with the EVO to reach the same point - with much less hardwear - basically a 3" exhuast, emanage and boost controller will get you there

Supposidly they are now over 320 whp and the problem was not the turbo or the cams but the exhaust.
