Initially during normal driving, esp when shifting. Extremely notchy and hard to get into 2nd and 3rd.

Dealer replaced them....then chattering began. Just talked to dealer not to long ago and said there is a new *TSB* fix for this with new redesigned synchros.

I will try to get a hold of it when i go in and post it up. Other than that , they are replacing idler gears (no idea what that is) and a few other bushings, bearings, etc...

To the OP, what Idler were you trying to get replaced? The accessory or Timing Belt Idler? My Timing Belt Idler or Tensioner has made a bearing noise since day one and was told it's normal belt harmonics. I'm going to try another dealer in a week.

Not really sure...not very transmission technical here. Service guy just said "idler gears" in the transmission.

I would more than happy to let you know once i get a hold of the parts list next week.

Well said, When i bought the car i knew they will never see my car at the dealer, Still get free oil changes from time to time because i own 05 and there was an some kind of deal for that year on evo's, other than that! SCREW THEM ALL! TECH's ARE RETARDS! (not all, but 95% they are!) they think THE CAR IS Bullet proff, ferrari who knows what, fast, good looking , whatever, well they take few hours of class or whatever to be Evo TECH! **** that ****. Learn the car from ground up IF you're the damn tech! I'm sick of reading posts by someone who owns evo, paid lots of $ or pay good amount per month - he's car is stock and still his car gets void warranty, because of a ABUSE, SURE people beat on the cars what would you expect.... Good thing is i know the car like my pocket and i can fix things... there and there, so

^^^^^^^^^
I just think WE should write a big letter and deliver to every damn mitsu dealer so they can read, HOW people are SICK of dealing with every dealer about warranty issues, write the letter to japan, I dont know DO something about it.

IT is funny, how people post here and ask questions, and sometimes you can LEARN alot more from here than even MItsu mech/tech can tell you.... shame .

hmm

But honestly, I see both sides of this issue. Mitsu isn't stupid and they obviously realized that a disproportionate number of people were beating on the car and breaking things that shouldn't be breaking. There's just too many bad drivers and kids out there destroying transmissions and burning up clutches. (I'm not saying you fall into this category.) I totally disagree with their aggressive practice of voiding warranties and I wish I could count on the warranty that I paid good money for. But I understand why it is the way it is.

The other thing is that most of the Mitsubishi techs are total retards and have no idea how to work on an Evo. I don't really want them touching my car. For the most part I'd rather just pay a hardcore Evo tech and know that my car was taken care of the right way.

BTW I see you're in Philly - what dealer was this?

Definitely do that just in case we IX owners need it

If you were stock then I would call local consumer protection agencey, federal trade commision, and the dmv and file complaints against the dealer, the rep, and mitsu of north america. A car should not be breaking like that @ 2,000 miles. Somebody needs to stick it to these j@ck@55es once and for all.

What one of the service managers told me was that if a part voids your warranty you can have them put it into writing why they are voiding your warranty and exactly how the part installed voided that warranty. That's just what I was told. Excessive mods seems too ambigous to me.

Unhappy

I just traded in my VW R32 for a brand new ix with 5 miles on the odo and I am having trouble with 2nd/3rd gear. They seem to also be notchy, feels like synchros aren't catching up. and grinds while upshifting. I literally am "granny shifting" I currently have 378 on the odo, driving it according to mitsu's break-in procedure. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with this problem and hoping it will go away really soon!!!

Will keep you posted.

ps keep us posted

if there were no gear shavings or broken gears then the trans case would be fine. if they replace all the gears inside, the thing is still brand f'n new. it's funny, i know there are some dealer horror stories out there, but at least these guys are trying to fix it. IMO some people are WAY too oversensitive to the gear thing. ITS A MITSUBISHI! not a beamer or a lexus. i also have a notchy tranny @ 20,000 miles. it hasn't affected my shifting one bit, (5500- 6500 max, i know but i'm on surface streets all the time).

The dealer is : Jeff D'Ambrosio in Downingtown/Exton area

My thought is that the dealer has been pretty friendly and supportive thus far. I'm not sure how much control they have over the district rep....seems not a lot as they have final say and not even customer service can persuade them otherwise.

I have been in a situation like this with my previous car and the Attorney General and BBB seemed to have helped last time. We shall see if Mitsu likes hearing from them as well.

SeoulBrotha...i would say to take it in ASAP. The sooner you document the better. Worst case scenario is they attempt to fix three times or whatever your state law is and you lemon the car.

HOnstly i don't want them to lemon it. I love the car....i just want them to FIX it right. Unfortunately these posts are becoming all too popular. There has to be someone on this board who has connection to some corporate Mitsu person...

Anyone?

Totally understandable....mine was notchy at first, actually got better as the miles went on it. However the initial grinding was pretty bad when going into 2nd and 3rd....so much so that it was noticeable to passenger in the car.
