need quick help
4G63 balance belts are notorious for snapping at the 100K mark and taking out the timing belt, and by chain reaction usually your exhaust valves and cracking your exhaust valve guides. Tensioners tend to loosen up over time, allowing the timing belt to slip easier, yielding the same result.
The reason most people choose to replace the tensioner and balance belt is because their failure will be relatively disastrous.

hey i got an idea to settle all of this arguing.
Whoever is reading this ask yourself this...
Do you trust Bucknaked (someone that just writes in) OR Buschur Racing (people that work on Evos for a living)?
If you dont believe you should change it then just call Buschur Racing. I was told by them that I should change it when i change my belt. And i got 2005 Evo 8, They knew that because i bought all my parts from them.
Also Ask your mitsubishi dealer... OH wait they already said that it should be replaced with the belt!
So really who are you going to believe?
Bucknaked OR Buschur Racing and a Mitsubishi Dealer?

I can't believe you don't get it
Mitsubishi never published anything that says you need to have your tensioner, water pump replaced at 60k! Put on your helmet (not racing one your "special" helmet) and read your manuel.
They dont have to jackass its known buy most everyone in the auto industry. It is not an EVO specific thing its for all cars with the same kind of set up. Change the hydrolic tensioners when you do the belt. Common knowledge jackass
+100000
Finally someone that knows what they are talking about. It isnt like you HAVE to change it, but it is strongly recommended. Anyone that knows something about cars knows that if it is a HYDRAULIC tensioner, then it should be replaced.

Why don't you guy's get a room.
You are the only two who are writing this crap. If its a common practice in the auto ind. then show me where it says this in regurds to Mitsubishi! You jackasses honestly believe that all auto consumers were born with this knowledge, because that is what you are saying. All these questions arise from Evo owner's who have at least some engine knowledge and are asking because Mitsubishi says none of the parts you say need replacment, DONT. If Burchur and God say different, fine. But most people take their car to the dealer, Evo or any brand. People with any brand car, bearly get their oil changed on time, and you think they automatically know that they need to change their tensioner at 60k!
