If you switch, I'm a local who might be willing to buy a nice quite 3" exhaust. Any pics/sound clips?

I bought my 2 week used Helix catback for 350 shipped - better construction, most likely lighter, and most likely makes more power.

I win, you lose.
you get a ticket for loud exhaust, he win, you lose.
his purpose was to make a non-restrictive quiet exhaust, not the most powerful exhaust ever. although the post title is misleading.

that's true, but I doubt that the offset outlet has any measurable difference in hp. It’s still a straight through design. Compare the bend in the muffler to the sharp bends on the downpipe and it seems minuscule.

Not that I completely disagree with you, but a "guarantee" usually implies some sort of risk on the part of the party issueing said guarantee. Like If a reputable company makes a claim and attaches a garantee, they would be liable to fefund the customer or whatever the terms were if that claim was disputed.

I do not think you are in a posistion to refund the costs of building this system if a louder commercial product was to best it in a comparrison.

Reversion happens when the outer layer of gasses expand into the larger diameter resonator and cool down slightly while the inner stream of hotter gas punches through the center. This creates eddis of donut shaped swirls that reduce noise and create back pressure. This is just one of many more principals you need to factor in.

The cops here have and will stop me for anything but a stock muffler anyway (even get pulled over for the stocker).

Anyway I do like your approach but making claims just gets in the way of the content of your thread which I actually think is pretty cool.

Congrats and all in trying to piece your own catback together... but that thing looks awful... and for the price it's not all that much cheaper than some of the economy brand catbacks.

Between this, the eBay imitation AMS FMIC and the EVO VII badge on the trunk... we might just have to rename your evo to the Spare Parts EVO.

To the OP,

Good job on your custom exhaust! Quiet, yet flows well! I am actually thinking about welding a 24" long resonator that you used on my RS-R exmag catback. Do you think that this would tone down my exhaust a lot? Thanks.

Many muffler shops hype up their work, and try to throw their accomplishments at you so you think "wow, 8sec cars, they must know their isht" ...who knows what they did on those 8sec cars, that's another story.
I'm sure it's quiet and will make more power than the stock unit but to compare to other less restricted exhausts is, interesting. If sound is reduced to silence, i can bet you lunch air flow is to.

On a less skeptical note. Welds are nice, exhaust(muffler) looks good

What is everyone focussing on here? The look or the function? Sure the craftsmanship is second or third or fourth rate, but the purpose was to create an exhaust that flows freely and is quiet when compared to almost every other exhaust out there. He accomplished what he set out to do. I personally would have gone with the RSR Exmag but again it is double the price of his unit. And also, food for thought. What if his exhaust was 3.5 or 4 inches. It would probably outflow everything out there at some point in the powerband while only being marginally louder than it is now.

wow, i'd rather have a quiet exhaust with a little bit of power loss than a loud *** exhaust which would produce more power.

living in cali sucks.
