Quick teaser vid - helmet cam

I'm going to write a long, detailed review of this weekend's NASA Rocky Mountain 2-day event, but it will take a little while before I get all the pics from the photographers, sort through them, upload them, so I figured I'd show what I _do_ have.

Unfortunately, my camera management skills suck, so I only got footage of half my sessions (4 of 8), and 3 of those, the camera turned itself off before I finished the warm-up lap. I guess I need to change the auto-shutoff setting or something. Anyway, the _one_ vid I did get still only lasted 2 laps (one warm-up and first hot lap), and it happens to be my first attempt at using my helmet cam attachment. Yes, I'm tall, and the helmet is even higher, so the rearview and sun visor get in the way, but I think this angle gives a great vantage point that really shows the speed. In my vids with the camera on the back deck, it always looks really slow even when going 130. Anyway, here's the Youtube and full versions. I'm posting the link to the raw footage, because it's high resolution and is much more intense. You can make it fullscreen and turn up the volume!

Big version is definitely worth it.

Oh, and for the record, this wasn't a great lap or anything. It was just the first hot lap after the warm-up, so I didn't even go hard around turn 10 (turn before the long straight), plus I ran into traffic on turn 9 right before the camera stopped. I later put down some monster laps that were ridiculously fast, but I wasn't rolling film during those.

It doesn't have "save target as" if you right click on it?

It's an .mpg, so just use Windows Media.

Really? Damn, I thought it was the opposite. You can see the ground and skid marks zooming by so fast, they're almost a blur, which makes things look very fast to me. It only looks like 60mph to you, though? Well, maybe you need to see my previous in-car vid from the back deck - that makes everything look REALLY slow!

It's a kit I got off Ebay with a lipstick camera (bullet camera?), rubber holder that velcroes to any surface (helmet in this instance), external mic, two battery packs, and then a cable to connect to regular red/yellow/white A/V cables that plug into your own digital camera. I just put my nice digicam in the center consoles with some socks cushioning it, then ran the cables out to the lipstick camera on my helmet.

Love it. It's so smooth, reliable, and easy to shift that I didn't think about shifting once the whole weekend. That's when you know you have a good setup. Shifting was effortless from the first minute through the last session...

Nice Warr! Looks good, I've been wanting to get one of these for when I'm out skiing, so that all my vids don't just look like this:
