this long off topic rant leads into a question i've had before.

I understand different dyno's will read differently and horsepower is affected by temp/altitude.

I don't understand why the dyno's read different numbers for the same car, assuming a car is strapped down correctly and dyno is working right.

1 horsepower is 1 horsepower it's a unit of measurement, every dyno should agree on what 1 horsepower is. 33,000 ft·lbs per minute is the same everywhere.

that's like saying a foot is 12 inches on main st but go down the road and it's actually only 11.3 inches?

To me the power figures the machine spits out are meaningless - (although I understand that many customers are interested in them)

The main use of a dyno is to properly tune a car in a controlled envirnment
Are you sure, hook me up with one. they quoted me about 100k pm sent

We have a Dyno Dynamics in our shop and we always here this: "what is my HP in DynoJet #'s?"
What we mostly use it for is R&D rather than for a "final #" as the Dyno is a tool used to get a proper tune like Al said above. The DD has many features good for tuning through load sites. I also like the DynoJet and I see why everyone would want to know how their #'s compare to someone else's from another dyno. As many like to dyno their car to see what gains they make from mods and tuning and have something to compare with others to know if they are making the power they should with what they have. There is a Mustang shop in the building next to us and they have a DynoJet so we have dyno'd cars on both to adjust our dyno correction to a "dynojet" standard

Judging by the video that Al posted, "The Shop" uses a 1.15 correction to inflate their numbers to right like (or even a bit higher) than a Dynojet. If you watch the video, you can see the run selection window which shows the correction.

Shiv,

have you heard anything from DD about a common driveshaft coupler to pair the sets?

they told me they were working on something, but i ended up with the a mustang AWD, although i loved the DD when i demo'd it.

My #s on this DD are with a 1.1 correction factor.
They set it up depending the temps, humidity, etc. All three times that i ve been there the weather is pretty similar and always we ve used 1.1 cf, as we are going to do again tomorrow... I will try to get both figures tomorrow...

Some guys on here don't get what? You're the only one here who is completely clueless despite 7 pages of explanations.

Correction Factor seems to be the biggest factor.
