What would you do?

Just wondering what you guys would do if you were in my position?

I have been trying to sell my turbokit for a while but have had it installed on my car as it is my daily driver and cannot afford to have my car down for long periods of time, so I was waiting until I had finalized a buyer to take it off to minimize the amount of time I would be left ride less.

A little over a week ago a member on here, hksevolutionnyc sent me numerous PM's expressing interest and asking questions about the kit. Since he was located on Staten Island I offered to bring the kit up to New Jersey when I drove home for my spring break, to save the cost of either one of us having to pay for shipping to get it to him.

After talking about pricing and details I discussed the fact that he would need to be completely positive in regards to how serious he was about wanting to purchase the kit, as I was not willing to strip off my turbokit, radiator, drain all my oil and coolant for a "possible" sale.

Here are some of the PM's

He claimed he understood and was 100 percent certain he wanted to purchase the kit so I obliged and ripped it off and brought it back home with me. 3 days after getting back he sends me a pm claiming to have crashed his car and no longer being able to afford it.

Regardless of the fact that the kit did not sell, I am not out of pocket going to have to pay to refill my car with fluids and I feel that he should have to cover the cost as a minimum considering what I went through for him.

Also I have a feeling that his whole story regarding his car getting damaged is bull****, but what can you do...... I understand I cannot force him to follow through with what he decided but again after what I did with him I feel like I was seriously taken advantage of.

What do you guys think, am I crazy to even consider that he should do that?

Yes, you are crazy to think that he just made up the part about him crashing his car. Just move and try to sell the turbo kit to someone else.

It's not unreasonable of you to expect him to pay for the fluids etc. but I don't think you should've posted his phone number either. At the end of the day I think all you can do is chalk it up to a lesson learned and move on. My 2 cents.

Edited for phone numbers.

I have moved on, just not looking forward to shelling out of my own pocket and re installing my setup to return my car to the state it was in before I left.....

I agree with you Scorke, I think he strung you along all the way. If he was genuinely going to buy it from you, he AT LEAST would have offered and SENT you the money for the fluids and your time, since HE NO LONGER COULD PULL THRU on his end. you did your part of the deal. That only is common courtesy. Since he hasn't offered you any compensation, I am sure he screwed you all the way! What a tool. Sorry to hear about that.

Yes, you are right, I would try to do the same thing.

No thats rediculous, I would never expect somebody to do that.

Staten Island, I live on Staten Island give me his phone number and I'll go see if he is full of **** or not.

Your being completely irrational he doesn't owe you anything.

I dunno, but thats why I made a post to see what other people have to say on it, thanks for your input........

I wouldn't say it is the actual price of the fluids, it is the principle of the whole thing. He did something nice for this guy (Stuff we did in the 70's-80's) WHEN PEOPLE CARED ABOUT EACH OTHER!! Those days are gone. If I wrecked my car, and couldn't pull thru with buying it, I would be apologetic, and send him some gas money, and money for his time. I would have at least cared that much. I can't see him ever wanting it in the first place, scorke bit the hook to help someone else, and he was taken. I would have done the same for a fellow evom member.

that suck but if i was in your shoes i would have not touched the turbo kit and ripped it off my car unless i had money in my hand. And if shipping is a problem both of you could have split the cost of shipping. It's not gonna cost you more that $100 to ship from NJ to NY. Sorry bro but it sucks it happened the way it did but just gotta learn from your lesson and move on. My 0.02.

Agreed, I wanted to and said I would rather just ship it or have him give me some kind of deposit, but he was persistent over the phone that he had cash in hand and obviously wouldn't cover shipping.

Virgo, don't you change your own oil? As far as coolant I have no idea......

Like smoked said I was just a dummy to assume that the deal was going to go as planned, I know in the future to not put myself in as vulnerable a position.

No, I don't change my oil. I agree that he should of been more courteous, but he does not have any obligations to you. All I can say is that don't make the same mistake again.
