My car just started leaking and i'm thinking its from the same grommet.. I never even knew there was water in the car until I went to install my wideband and had to pull the pass side carpet back.. My eyes lit up like a deer in headlights when I saw how saturated the felt was.. I have it dry now and siliconed the hell out of the grommet, but just hoping it never happens again.. BTW I never drove the car in the rain, only wash it at home with a hose and it still leaked in.. Does anyone know off hand what a new carpet costs incase I feel like replacing it down the road?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure mine were installed from the factory because it had it listed on the maronie sticker. Its an 8 MR.

Never had any issues with it or leakage or anything of the sorts.

I removed my factory MR gauges and installed some DEFI's using the grommet begind the glovebox. I re-used the factory boost line though. I removed the Oil Temp transmitter and replaced with a standard drain plug, and also removed as much wiring as I could. There is still wire from where the old oil temp xmtr used to be leading into the fender and from there somewhere into the cabin where it is tied up behind my dash. I imagine I have to take the panels off in the wheel well to remove this wire? Sort of a pain. Where is the leaking grommet in question? In the fender?

Yes. Take off the front passengers wheel, remove the fenderwell lining. Look up and to the left past where the firewall meets the footwell right below where the glove box would be and voila. Leaky grommet should be staring back atchya.

dumb question, but...is the fenderwell lining difficult to remove? Is it held with screws, bolts or other?

Its very easy to remove it, but suggest that you buy some extra pins (that hold the fender liner in place) before starting the job. Sometimes they get trashed when removed.

I went to Home Depot and got some carpet padding and ripped my soaked stock stuff off the back of the carpet and glued the new sfuff on. My carpet seemed to be unaffected since it's rubber backed.
