DIY catch can for stock engine bay
I went with the air compressor filter like AutoXer (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=51997) for a ventilation side catch can. These filters have a 5 micron ceramic element that should do a pretty good job of catching oil as from the crank case air passes through it.
I got the catch can at HomeDepot for $12. I tapped the holes on the top of the filter for 10-24 screws (the holes are a good size for 10-24) and filled the schrader valve at the bottom of the bowl with silicon sealant. The silicon sealant isn't necessary for the ventilation side, but would be necessary for a catch can install on the PCV side.
Had to go to Ace Hardware for:
5/16" hose x 1/4" mnpt fittings (2 needed)
5/16" hose mender fitting (1 needed)
L-bracket (part of a kit)
10-24x3/8" SS machine screws (2 needed)
5/16" x 5' fuel line hose (in automotive dept)
Went to Schucks for the spring hose clamps. They were part of a kit of various size spring clamps.
I mounted the filter towards the front of the engine bay were it ought to see cooler air that will help to make the oil condense out on the filter element. In the position where I mounted it, I can relatively easily unscrew the catch bowl. When drilling the holes for the bracket, watch out for the hood release cable which runs in that area under the sheet metal. I had to slot the bracket holes slightly to allow the bracket holes to line up with the filter mounting holes.
I used the 5/16" hose mender to attach the new hose to the existing vent hose. Seemed like a much easier option than trying to remove the original line at the intake tube.
